moving an object from Germany
 

I'm looking into the prospect of buying a machine from ebay.de, Germany.

A heavy sort of thing that weighs 1 or 2 tons.

Does anyone know a company that could do that?

No, but I,ve had quotes from them in the past and see their truck around regularly.

The difficulty with this sort of thing is you need someone big enough to have facilities to pick up, but small enough to want to do a one-off move.
The big companies don't work with individuals, and when they do the load has to be palletized and ready to lift from an easily accessible place.
I've fooled them in the past, using a company name of a friend. But I did have the item crated on a pallet, and a forklift at each end.

Small enough to reply on a Saturday.

I'm looking at a milling machine. It's basically 2 tons of iron, and will need to be handled and lifted into the transport vehicle.

A company called DB Shenker was recommended to me, they quoted me a good price but not sure if they'll carry my machine.

BP-sped quoted a higher price but I decided to go with them as they use their own vehicles + people.
I sent mail on Thursday, still no response at the end of Monday.

Just to update;
BP-sped picked up my machine at the seller, and delivered it to my front gate for 520 + tax.
Seller loaded it with a forklift and I unloaded with a forklift.
Machine is 1,300kg.
It's has handles and things sticking out everywhere, is oily and not packed, just sitting on a pallet.
I was happy with them, they did the job without damage.

I'd say that's a job well done for a good price looking at the size/shape of it

I'm down south.
There are usually workshops around; lathes a plenty, fewer milling machines but you'll find one if you look.
Finding an English speaking machinist might be harder.

Aah, OK, thanks. I'm sure you are right, there will be workshops around & my Portuguese is improving so should be able to make myself understood. :thumbs_up:

When I was a kid, I liked to draw cartoons. I never achieved any artistic talent, but the mild skill is very handy for bending the language barrier.
My milling machine doesn't want to work; but it will one day soon.
