Hi...we are moving to the Algarve at Christmas to our apartment. We would like to bring with us a UK motorhome to travel and potentially live in during the summer months to rent our apartment out. Can we bring a UK motorhome to Portugal? Can we insure, Tax the motorhome? and would we have to take it back to the UK for an MOT?

Any UK vehicle can be brought to Portugal for up to 6 months, so long as it is Taxed, Tested and insured in its home country (UK) during that period. Following that period, the vehicle has to be either legally re-registered in Portugal, or taken back home. Don’t believe those who say you can take it back to the UK for a quick “MOT visit” and then returned to Portugal. It simply isn’t true.
