Default Maternity Leave in Portugal

As I understand it, new mothers are entitled to 100% of their pay for 120 consecutive days (plus another optional150 days' leave that parents can take at 80% of the monthly salary).

Would a company (that has no presence in Portugal and is paying the employee, who is a resident, via a payroll company and therefore adhering to Portuguese labour law) be responsible for paying the new mother's salary during maternity leave or is this taken care of by social security?

The employee would be earning above minimum wage so I was wondering if there was a cap on who receives maternity pay from social security?

If there's no cap and *everyone* receives the maternity pay through social security regardless of salary, what happens if the employee has only been paying into the social security system for a couple of months rather than the required minimum six months? Is the employer then obliged to pay the salary during maternity leave?

Basically trying to get an answer to who is responsible for paying maternity leave in Portugal for those earning above minimum wage.

Also is it possible to take out private health insurance that covers childbirth while already being pregnant or will they refuse coverage as it's a non-declared/pre-existing condition?

Thanks, I already saw this but it doesn't answer my specific questions about who pays the salary during maternity leave (for those earning above minimum wage and/or those who might not have paid into the system for the required 6 months) or about insurance (providing coverage to someone who is already pregnant at the time of taking out the policy).

I thought the EU brought in a law that maternity leave could be up to a year paid for by the employer.

Why don't you ask your employer what the terms and conditions would be.

In the UK I thought there was a mandatory 26 weeks of employment before the employer became liable for full maternity payments.

Also when taking out a medical insurance policy one has to declare is one is pregnant or not. Most policies don't cover pregnancy.
