LAND Border with Spain ~is it Open yet to Visitors ??
Anyone know yet if the land border with Spain is open to visitors / tourists / persons not resident but owning houses ( if that is a separate category from Visitors ) ?
If border not yet open, is there any chapter and verse as to on what date it will be ?
I read an article last week stating that the Tourism Minister ( I think it was ) said that 'Portugal welcomes visitors this summer ' or some such but I did not see a specific date for re opening the land borders .
If border not yet open, is there any chapter and verse as to on what date it will be ?

The border is to remain closed with certain exceptions (not including leisure and tourism) until at least 15th June.

If the governments finally agree the most likely date for opening the border Portugal - Spain looks to be the 1st July. The Spanish Tourism Minister said today the 22nd June but this now appears to have been corrected to the later date.
As at today the agreement between Spain and Portugal is to evaluate the situation on the 15th June prior to the ending of the Spanish State of Emergency although there do exist "corridors" for Portuguese returning to Portugal from France to pass through Spain.

Is not Portugal supposed to be opening to tourism from abroad on the 15th June ?
Easyjet flights for the second half of June ( NCL to FAO ) are booked solid.
If people can enter via airports what would be th objection to them entering via road crossings ?

There was a minor diplomatic ruffling of feathers this week when Spain's tourism minister announced that the border with Portugal would reopen on 22nd June, the reaction to which was surprise on the part of the PT authorities and a swift reminder that it is Portugal alone which decides on matters regarding its borders.
The PT authorities are currently engaged in bilateral negotiations with the UK over the UK's obligatory quarantine, in an effort to ensure that people arriving or returning from Portugal will not be subject to it. They are also urging that when travel restrictions are lifted, quarantine procedures shouldn't apply anywhere when it comes to internal travel in the EU.

Spain can decide whom, if anyone, it allows to cross by land from France to Spain, but I don't see how that affects whom Portugal decides may cross from Spain to Portugal. For example ~there may already be people in Spain, not least Spaniards, but also UK expats, who might wish to visit Portugal.
My question is : is it correct that from the 15th anyone who wishes may enter Portugal via airports ? [ The fully booked planes from the UK for the whole of the last fortnight of this month would indicate this to be the case.]
If so ~that Portugal is permitting visitors from the 15th., via the air route, why would the Govt. not equally permit travel into Portugal via the land route from Spain ?

There will be no flights arriving from Spain during this period either, if that helps to shed any light on the matter.

The flights from Easyjet in June that are showing as 'fully booked' are not actually flying. The first flights are July 4th.
