Items going missing in the post

Hello,
I've lived in Lisbon for several years, and have used the UK to Lisbon postal services with no problems at all. However, over the last few months several items have failed to arrive, including a parcel from Mum which contained a fairly expensive gift.
I was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences, and if there is any specific way of following this up with the portuguese postal service?
Many thanks in advance,
Ali
Ps. New member - hello all!

Only had one thing not arrive from UK, which was also my Mum who sent it... perhaps our Mums are pretending to send us expensive gifts when in fact they sent nothing?!;)
Seriously, my mother went to the post office she sent it from, filled in a claim form and was reimbursed,be it a small amount. Anything sent from Portugal to UK would be the responsibility of Portuguese mail system.

Oh and "welcome":)

I regularly post cards etc to my Portuguese friends and they get through.
When I posted loaded Oyster cards to friends in Braga who were planning a visit, the didn't reach them! Sods law!

You should have registered them online, then you can reclaim all lost funds.

In the last year I have had expensive Raybans, DNA going to America and several other things going missing. These were all registered and we got something for the Raybans, nothing for the DNA as they said (after 4 months) they had found it, not much use then. I am now worrying about a Christmas present for my husband, ordered on-line, which hasn't arrived!

Morning all,
Thanks for the replies and advice. The post has been pretty reliable for a long time but has seemed to get worse recently. Hopefully Mum can claim for the parcel that went awol, and registering anything sent in future is probably a wise option.
That said, a book I purchased from eBay turned up after 3 months having gone via Canada, so perhaps there is hope for us yet :)
Thanks again all x
