IPO question

Is a fire extinguisher required?

I seem to remember yes, but I don't have one in the car.
Well, I do; but it's an old ilegal halon one.

No, it's not unless it's a collective transport vehicle or one that runs on gas.

Diesel / petrol / electric engined private vehicles aren't required to have one on board.

Thanks; someone just told me that you can be fined by the GNR if you carry a fire extinguisher that is out of date; so better not to have one!

I'll keep one in my car anyway.

I have put out a few fires.

Yes, I was also the one who started them...

This is from ACP :

Extintor

Seems pretty specific, however I grant they don't quote a source and I haven't tracked down any accurate reference to a specific article of law in which that 2nd para is stated.

Brought it across from the uk ,matriculation carried out no question about fire extinguisher, no question on the subsequent 6 ipos ,maybe I've been lucky 🙂

Re: IPO question

In my opinion, everyone should carry a fire extinguisher anyway.
A small fire is really easy to put out, but it can become a big fire within a few minutes, that is NOT easy to put out.
But if you have a burning gas line; that would be a tough one.

Oh yeah; my car failed IPO anyway.

If it were a legal obligation, I'd be more worried about a roadside stop than the annual inspection.

Re: IPO question

I reckon it's NOT a legal requirement but a recommendation and that's the reason it's never been checked.

Well that's what my limited research shows (only legal requirement on commercial vehicles)

I got my 25 year old car passed today; so it lives for another year.

I had to replace the front struts and the rear brakes.
