Information please
Hi Folks,
My wife and I are going to buy a house in the Beja region in the near future and would like to know what the likely financial hits are going to be. For example; property taxes, utilities on an average two/three bedroomed villa? and any other elements and fees that we need to be aware of. This isn't a tentative thing...we are doing this but have only been on holiday locally and need to know exactly what we are getting ourselves into. Any information will be gratefully received. You never know, we may be moving near to you and I will happily buy a bottle of wine if our paths cross over the next while.

Re: Information please
Hi,
very difficult to answer.
If you plan on being resident you can get an exemption from property taxes for either 5 or 8 years (depending on price of property etc) the lawyer you use to buy should be able to explain this.
buying costs average around 6-7% +around 1% for a lawyer
Water - without a pool around 20 euros per month - but depends on how much land you have and how much irrigation you plan on doing
Electricity - around 60 euros per month - but again depends how you live.
Plus of course income tax - again if appropriate to you.
We live around 40 minutes from Beja.
Wishing you the best of luck.

Re: Information please
If your intention is to live in Portugal it is a very different experience to living there as it would be in any country.
If you can before you commit to anything try and spend at leats a couple of months there.
The weathet inland can be very different to the coast much hotter in summer and cooler in winter.
Try and spend time in the different seasons.
