Incompetence of MEO
#46

MEO has discontinued copper line (traditional wire) service; that happened at about the time you say you lost service.
If you're waiting for them to turn the old system back on, that will not happen.
Perhaps you're waiting for fiberoptic service to be installed?
Fiberoptic cable is being run by another company that sells bandwidth to MEO, Vodafone, and other operators. Is some areas where customers are widely spread, it's not economically viable for them to install the cables and/or junction box.
Sometimes government (camara in our area) subsidizes the connections for rural users.
I learned these things by talking to the fiberoptic installation guys working in the nearby village.
One of them told me if you ask for Blu internet service, they will run fiber for you almost anywhere. But they only do internet, no TV.
MEO lady on the phone told me that they are removing the old copper lines due to an EU environmental directive. I strongly suspect that of being utter BS.
They have shut off the service, but no one has ever taken away old communication wires. There are old ones all over the place; on poles, in the trees, on the ground, under the ground. Old poles are all over the countryside, some broken, most unused.

Our landline came back yesterday but we will not renew the internet as using the SIM card is more reliable and faster. We were given another 50 euro credit so total of 75 Euros now,

It’s a strange world. We tried and failed to get Lazer. Although our neighbours have it, when we asked, Lazer said that it would be too difficult to extend it to us at present….weird. So MEO it had to be. We gritted our teeth and rolled up our sleeves and queued up at a ‘genuine’ MEO shop in Loule. We had limited success - telephone and internet were available. However, it took a few visits and some nagging to get MEO to actually turn up. In the meantime we got by using the Vodaphone modem.
After mentioning the word ‘Lazer’ a few times in the shop and to anyone from MEO we spoke to, we suddenly had a phone call from MEO out of the blue, giving us a time and date when the technicians would arrive. We were pretty sceptical. However, two nice lads turned up and installed fibre for us in under an hour. Alleleuia - we now have telephone, internet and tv - all with MEO. So - try mentioning to MEO that you are just waiting to hear back from Lazer…..
