Hello, I know this is a bit like 'coals to Newcastle' but I'm trying to bring my wine collection across to Portugal (I'm now resident and have had residency since 2020) - it sounds grander than it is but its about 20 cases of mainly French wine. According to what I've been able to find out, I'm only allowed to bring in 5 bottles each time!

My question is - does the fact that I'm resident here make any difference to that quota? And if I exceed this 5 bottle total what would be the penalties?

Sorry, no. If you contact Portuguese customs they should be able to give you an idea of costs to import.

Will you be driving the boxes of wine into Portugal yourself ?

If so, inevitably you will be crossing from Spain.

Does Portugal levy duties / taxes on stuff being imported from Spain ?

Surely, customs rules will be enforced wherever you enter the EU, be that France, Spain or Portugal, no?
