I would say Lisbon is certainly more buzzy than Brighton!

I would say Lagos (more expensive) or the more upcoming Portimao and very lively in the low season would be nice. We loved Tavira but did not buy there, because you cannot just go on a daily walk on the beach. You need to take a boat. We love to walk along the beach daily and most of the time twice a day.
We like the rocky exciting beaches as of Albufeira to Lagos and prefer the rocky sand beaches above the dunes (like in Holland).

Lagoa has an international school. Silves is not far from this school too.

Silves, Lagos, and Portimao are lively all year round. Albufeira is for holidaymakers and not THE place for expats. There is an expat-organisation AFPOP. Maybe ask them for a reliable relocation company if you decide to go for the Algarve.

Prices are higher in the Algarve than on the west coast at 1 hour from Lissabon.

Not easy to chose when you don't know the country. We never were before in Portugal, but happy to have done it.

Success!!

Thank you so much. We will go over for a few days next week to drive across the Algarve and then up to Lisbon to see where is more ‘us’. So much good advice. Thank you again x

The western Algarve is much cheaper than Lisbon where prices have sky-rocketed over the last couple of years.

You should look into joining AFPOP, they provide all sorts of info, and you get discounts on a really good variety of things. if you like you can contact us via private message for our phone number and we can give you more info.
