I only hope Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast can manage outbreaks on their turfs!

Better to continue to support the travel industry for another year, than risk another January 2021.

I agree with barlaventoexpert, the bit i dont understand is why do people always seem to say i am okay to go on holiday because i have had my two jabs, they have no concern fo the people in the countries where the people have not had one let alone two jabs, when myself and all others here have had both then fine travel,as the risk to us will be less.

So why bother testing before departure??
If testing is 95% accurate then why is there a problem??
Is anyone testing arrivals from France, Holland, Germany and Spain when they turn up in the campervans

I would prefer to be tested along with all passengers before going to an airport and most certainly before climbing into a small metal cylinder.

Look at it the other way around for entry into the UK, for example. What's the point of leaving a ZERO risk country for the UK fully-vaccinated, getting the required tests and submitting the results online to the UK ahead of time and getting an approved code, then showing the hard-copy to check-in for your flight or be denied, then doing the whole social distancing and mask routine on the flight and then arriving in the UK only to have to queue for hours at the border, cheek by jowl with somebody right next to you who could have come from a much higher risk country, to enter a country just for a couple of hours when in transit, where near 75% of those who have covid keep it quiet as they can't afford to report it and self-isolate, even if it were the more dangerous or infectious strain. They might even be working in the airport facilities. Yes yes the numbers are way way down now - accepted.

It can't be the science as has endlessly been claimed, it can only be politics.

Fortunately, our planned ultimate destination of Funchal has a more enlightened approach in spite of covid still hanging around.

We even have to have a plan B approach in the event that we then miss our connection due to the largely pointless but clearly deliberate UK BORDER delays (allowed time of 6 1/2 hours) which means staying over a night and then entering Funchal via Nantes, thus exposing ourselves even more and possibly having to take yet another PCR test (instead of the antigen) for France.

I now see we can also get to FNC via Lisbon on a later Easyjet under their two hour change rules with an overnight or a near-immediate connection with TAP.

You miss the point. What I am saying to all those that fear an increase in covid coming from UK or anywhere by plane is that they have proved they are clear of covid, so what's the problem.
If that is not the case what's the point of it all.

I can get on a plane in UK without proving I am covid free, that is the point.
This morning I was talking to people heading for a flight out of LHR without having taken a test or the need too.

Going where and which airline???
I am of course with you in saying that tests must be done before departure, that way presumably all passengers on the flight are free of covid.

As I see it, testing establishes whether the tested traveller was likely to have been infected or not at the time of the test. By preventing travel by those who were shown to be likely to have been infected then, the risks are reduced for the remaining travellers and the risks of transmission from origin to destination are reduced. It cannot eliminate the possibility that a traveller will actually be infected or infectious at the time of travel.

100% vaccination of Gibraltar's adult population leads to, perhaps, 90%+ protection for that population. Allowing untested travellers into Gibraltar (and thence into Spain?) will test the efficacy of the vaccines and leave un-vaccinated co-travellers and the destination population(s) at risk.
