If it's any consolation, it's not only Portugal that has these problems. Us who live on the other side of the Guardiana have the same trouble, especially if you live in the campo with no street address.
If you have the choice, I have found NACEX to be the best, both in Portugal and Andalucia.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...
A second parcel [small one] coming from Germany DHL, they didn't bother to call [let alone try the GPS numbers].
I just found out they handed it over to CTT to deliver.
Which would be ok but my work is stopped while I wait.
DHL has delivered to this address multiple times in the past; WHY don't they keep a log of that?

A brief update. Contacted RM today. Asked where is my package ? GlS track says with consignee location London from 21/6. RM tells me that this just means its heading for London from Germany. She said it will appear on RM tracking after some weeks as its coming back by surface mail!!!.
Well what do u make of that?????????

I had UK friends send a xmas card , they mistakenly put a 2nd class stamp on it , got it at the end off February.
Patience is a virtue so they say !
UK Royal Mail 's control over GLS is a joke

Readers will be surprised that after two months my documents have returned. Meanwhile I have ordered new documents, notarized and apostillized. So I am well out of pocket. These documents I will have to personally carry out to Portugal, as its complete waste of time
trying to mail them. I am submitting a claim to Royal Mail but this will be difficult as they are accountable to no-one. I will keep inerested readers posted on future developments.

Thumbs up Re: GLS-contact-us

I had a shock/surprise this past week. I ordered some items from the UK from a company I have used many times. The items always come Royal Mail to my PO Box. I was not amused to receive despatch notification saying the items had been send RM Registered with code numbers for tracking!!!!! Can you imagine the delight when it went directly to my PO Box? Where was GLS? Perhaps things are changing.

Using the form below I sent them a really stinking & frank e-mail & actually followed that up by copying it to GLS Holland where the European HQ is
It still took them another 6 day's to deliver , in all it was 31 days late.

As you may know GLS Europe are wholly owned by PO UK
This may be out off date, this lady contacted my self from there HO

They are lying thieves seems that you can do nothing about them . I have 'lost' several packages ..one signed for from the Netherlands containing expensive make-up. never seen or heard from again. Like the poor man in the Newspaper who 'lost' an iPhone sent registered mail... It was traced directly to their Faro warehouse... NO they never got it... BS on a grand theft scale. ( their warehouse is a joke by the way... a shed with one young woman manning one phone, two or three 'thug' like guys just hanging around .No sign on the door.. )

I tell everyone who is sending me anything to use ANYONE other than this company or their subsiderie chronopost .... DHL or Fed EX.. is preferable... I also will only send to my local SPA grocery to avoid their being able to claim 'insufficient address' They don't have GPS ,the drivers don't have mobile phones.. It's a scandal.Literally highway robbery

But you can't always avoid GLS. If someone sends you a small parcel from the UK and Royal Mail decide to route it via GLS, there is nothing you can do to avoid GLS getting their hands on it. Our daughter sent 2 Pandora charms 2 months ago and they just disapppeared into the GLS wilderness without a trace.

Why not give everybody who may send you a parcel an address like below

A N Other
967767767 235776776 Sat nav 40.10.20.20N 8.04.04.04W
Rua My Lane
3000-212 Gois
Portugal

UPS deliver a couple of time a month no problem and i am not far from the main road. Chronopost with all the help in the address couldn't find the address so they sent it back to the sender in the UK. The driver claims to have tried three times to deliver. Pity i was working in the lane with builder when the driver claimed to have tried to find my address. I have now contacted the CEO of DPD who own Chronopost.

I always put my GPS numbers on my address [as my road is unnamed], but it rarely works.
There are several different numbering systems, which very few people understand. Input a different notation than your GPS is set for, and you end up some KM away, close enough to fool you.
The delivery vehicles aren't fitted with GPS units. Portugal has no GPS ready address database so using a GPS here requires some effort.
Drivers who are smart enough and willing to try such things don't work for those companies for long.
One driver observed the number, fed it into his smart phone, and found my house with no trouble at all.
I haven't seen him since. I assume he quit and got a better job.

Recently a delivery truck was waiting for me at the intersection of the main road, but in the wrong town.
50km away!
Never mind the GPS numbers, he was unable to read the postcode or town name correctly.
On the positive side, he did manage to phone my mobile.

My house is also no campo, up an unnamed road. If you Google my house name, it comes up on Google maps. The trouble is most drivers can't be bothered to do this.

+ I forgot to add
Every time I've had to contact them ,which is every bloody time they have a delivery for myself
I info them to call me using my mobile number which is on the base off my address & I will meet there driver in
front off the Church in a village which is 5 mins away.
But I'm convinced they wait until they have a good load for a each main post code ,then & only then will they do the drops

I know Bill .This is my biggest frustration.. My friend in the Netherlands sent me two tubes of mascara in June . I begged her to make sure that NL post did not send it with a GLS courier once it got to Portugal. She did everything right. even paid for tracking but they told her they had no control over who carried the parcel on in Portugal . It was tracked right to Faro.. where it disappeared. Unfortunately I waited too long to tell her I hadn't received the parcel ,she threw the ticket away thinking it must have arrived after two weeks. NOPE.

Apart from a bunch of us 'dupes' reporting this to the police .I don't know what else we can do on these occasions.

After reading all the horror stories about GLS l am wondering is it only smaii packets that seem to give them a problem?
I am thinking of ordering a Longbow from Hungary,
The company who makes these proudly states they ship via GLS. In 48 hours this would be a packet roughly 75" long, most likely in a tube of 3" diameter.
Has anyone had experience with them with other than small packets.
Bearing in mind l live in the campo.
