Fuel Strike
Hello everyone
Due to arrive in the Algarve this week and the strike is placing a downer on my holiday spirit.
What is the current situation locally?
Last time the strike was on I spent 40 mins queing for petrol.

Re: Fuel Strike
I expect someone from down that way will be able to give you an actual up to the minute boots-on-the-ground assessment but the authorities and the public seem much better prepared this time round and there doesn't seem to be the same level of general chaos taking the country as a whole.
There were queues at times leading up to the weekend but I think most people managed to fill their tanks before the strike started without too much bother. The minimum services defined by the government mean that fuel is still being delivered everywhere and they've now imposed a civil requisition, alleging breaches of those services, to ensure that they are adhered to.
So all in all, at this stage not horrendous but obviously likely to be more problematic the longer it goes on.

Re: Fuel Strike
Yesterday no fuel at all in small stations, Aljezur galp had no diesel and petrol is rationed to 15 liters per customer.
The Aljezur station is on the list to be kept supplied.
People here expect that Algarve will be neglected [as usual] by the powers in Lisbon, and it's going to be rough.
How this works with hire cars is anyone's guess. I think you'll do better with a petrol car than diesel. Locals use more diesel.
Agriculture diesel also ran out, but is not rationed where it's still available.
I might be the only user on this forum with a 'gasolioverde' card but thought I'd toss that info in.
It's very quiet outside considering it's high season.
I guess I'll go out and fix my bicycle tire...

Re: Fuel Strike
Hi Red/Liveaboard
We are hiring a petrol car, hope this gets sorted soon as part of the enjoyment was driving to the surrounding areas. Was even contemplating Porto.
If someone can confirm if the Cepsa(?) at Faro airport has remained fueled, it was I think one of the government favoured stations.
Thanks for the responses so far.

Re: Fuel Strike
There are 3 levels of service currently.
The emergency network (REPA) will be kept fully supplied with a limit of 15 litres refuel per customer. Some of these stations are designated for exclusive use of priority vehicles and some are open to the general public as well.
The other stations will have a minimum 50% service from the suppliers and will supply up to a max of 25 litres per customer.

Re: Fuel Strike
Where can I get a realistic list of fuel stations that are serving diesel.

Re: Fuel Strike
There is fuel around; many stations shut completely though.
Long wait in Aljezur, strictly enforced 15 liter limit, one island closed, one working.
Lagoa ha fuel at several places, wait maybe 15 minutes.
Portimao Jumbo I got lucky, no wait; limit not enforced.
I think that many people fueled up before the strike, and some stations haven't ran out yet.
If supply doesn't improve within a week, increased demand will make those lines stretch.

Re: Fuel Strike
That's a little behind the times.
One of the unions involved in strike action has called it off and scheduled talks with the employers for early September.
The other is saying they'll suspend their action provided a government mediator is nominated - though the government says it can't do that since the employers won't agree to anything while the strike is still ongoing.

Re: Fuel Strike
On this mornings TV News , something came up that seems to have been forgotten.
Not only do these Drivers who hold the "Dangerous Goods Licence" deliver Fuel ,they also deliver Bottled Gas !
It seems in some urban areas ,this is now on short supply .
