Forest Fires

Re: Forest Fires
Certainly in my area that's full of pine and eucalyptus, most of the trees are owned by many individuals, half a hector here or there and so on. Clearing the land by yourself is one thing but having to pay for it is extremely expensive, many cases will be OAP's with a couple hundred euros a month and they can barely eat never mind pay 1000€ to have half a hector cleared every year. Perhaps there should be help some way or another in that respect.

I can't imagine how you're feeling or the atmosphere in your village, poor people.

.Happy to know that you and your wife and pets survived .
We went to our locaL Bombeiros this morning to offer our condolences there for their fallen comrades. and to find out if they needed anything. Their storage up in Monchique is full with stuff donated last time ,so happily they should be ok for awhile...
I can imagine the horror of the landscape you are viewing right now,as we had it in Monchique last year. Not the grief however. that must be awful... Sterkte.(strength) .. as the Dutch would say.
p.s Can the forum help with anything ?

Re: Forest Fires
Unfortunately there are so many good causes that BE could become engaged in on a regular basis that it is not something that we can do. However, I know that whenever we have these huge fires in Spain people who wish to help go to the relevant authority to gain the information on how to provide either goods or funds so I suggest that this be attempted.
Good luck with all that you do.

Portugal fires: Canadair plane crashes while tackling blazes - BBC News
It gets worse (if it can), now one of the Canadair water bombing planes has gone down
There is no news of casualties - they must have done so many sorties over the past few days, I pray that they've escaped unharmed.
Watching here from the UK, but thinking of you all in Portugal. Keep safe.

Re: Forest Fires
I hope it really was false, enough lives have been lost already. It seems they are now suggesting that it was exploding gas bottles......
