Re: Flying
We were going to stay in the UK for a month or so but after reading the 'mood music', we moved our flight forward and flew back to Portugal yesterday.
No, they don't check the type of mask you wear; they just require that you do wear a mask.
There were literally 16 passengers on the flight - Easyjet Bristol to Faro.
They DID check that you had filled in your passenger locator form. We provided a printed copy, some people showed the QR code from their email as proof but everyone had to show they had done so.
You can fly from Bristol to Faro, non-stop on the 6th of November cheaply: £39.99
With Ryanair you could fly from Bristol to Faro, non-stop on the 4th of November cheaply: £31.09
Just a matter of looking around.

Re: Flying
It might help if you tell us where you live?
You are allowed to travel, although you are 'advised' not to. It's guidance, not legislation.

'Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed. This includes holidays abroad and in the UK'

You won't be going on 'holiday'. You will be seeking your Right to Residence. You will need to check if this is a legally permissible reason.
Easyjet: Manchester to Faro: 19th December: £72.99

We're not in lockdown for Halloween, it was the holiday. Basically to stop people from moving out of their parish, to visit family graves. That stops tomorrow morning at 6.00am. People who work in a different parish were able to travel.
The prime minister and president are meeting this morning to discuss what to do next.

Re: Flying
Short trips, shorter than 14 days are allowed to the UK, provided you quarantine during that period, which I did, so perhaps some gentle questioning instead of aggressive assumptions might be a better route forward?
