Exclamation EU residents transiting France - Banned - Covid

Posted on Facebook by SafeCommunities this morning
EUROTUNNEL WARNS BRITS CANNOT TRANSIT FRANCE BY ROAD.
Eurotunnel has warned British citizens who live in the European Union that they cannot travel through France by car from the UK because of new Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the French government.
In an ‘urgent update’ for British residents in the EU, Eurotunnel says on its website: “Following a French Government decision, on 28/12/2021, unless they hold French residency, British citizens are now considered 3rd country citizens and can no longer transit France by road to reach their country of residence in the EU.
“We do our best to interpret and update this page as soon as advice from the French government changes. For the very latest advice on entering France, we recommend checking interieur.gouv.fr and =AT0IspcUPgH8USWaallgrUUXZIUSKXh-bdIwxQeavjDC5zlx12DTJl1NjCQZX_oflGX5uz6FbiRjuEIjPJ CcjFzFkS4e3JVgFESLIVrf9eC2gfuxKScTZ-A9OjVnGdvM0arBvFg0quIk3oQmgoYpaNIr53HgrTMdzgD7K2Ux ygvP-S1AOu1-iOvVP_xRKObI6DZdTECoaLwTkWA]uk.ambafrance.org before travel.”

Does this mean that holiday makers can go though France? It just seems to be talking about EU residents Probably not.

Holiday makers? No they cannot.
The following to me is pretty clear, Eurotunnel has warned British citizens who live in the European Union that they cannot travel through France by car from the UK.
"Unless they hold French residency, British citizens are now considered 3rd country citizens and can no longer transit France by road to reach their country of residence in the EU."
UK holiday makers could presumably take a ferry to Santander (assuming they're still running) and drive through Spain to Portugal, until such time as the Spanish government decree the same as the French.

Here we go, usual facebook mambo-jambo disinformation.

All current travel info is on French embassy page: https://uk.ambafrance.org/COVID-19-r...d-the-UK-28918

LIST OF COMPELLING REASONS
Nationals of a third country with a valid European or French residence permit or long-stay visa with their main residence in France.

True, it would be serious breach of Schengen Border Code, France has no legal powers to override it.

However, there will some heavy handed border guards who hate anything not French.
UK - French relationships currently are on lowest level, so hostility should not be surprise to anyone.

Don't think so .Just read this info on a gov.uk email. Though whether you trust our current lot to know what is correct is another thing entirely.

So what would happen if myself (UK passport and PT residency) wants to transit France to PT along with OH( EU/PT passport and EU citizen). Is he waved through while I just stand there watching him disappear into the distance!! There is no mention as to what rules apply to this situation unless accompanying spouse rule prevails.

France has already backed down on this.

That has definitely changed from this morning. I don't think they've totally backed down, they seem to be relaxing it temporarily for Brits who went to the UK for Christmas who cannot now get home again. i'm sure it's not legal, we'll see.

I suspect this will be quietly shelved.

Yesterday I would have answered this with a probable "no". However in view of the government backpedaling over the last few hours, as already stated in most recent posts, with relaxed restrictions I understand it's now possible. But for how long........?
@toots sweet. What's facebook?..........
