Electricity
I hope that all members have had their electricity restored and that they did not suffer huge difficulties during the outage.

Yep, the electricity and information blackouts seem to be over for now. |
Re: Electricity
SWMBO reported that our elecricity returned at twenty past midnight - a 13 hour outage.
The hospital at Setubal was said to have backup power for 8-12 hours at the outset, so how they fared. I don't know. For us, we need to see how well our frozen food fared with no power for so long........... |

Re: Electricity
Elecricity out here for almost 10.5 hours. Frozen food Ok ,but think a bit longer might've been a problem.
The worst thing was that about 10 mins after, the water supply went off and didn't come back on till a bit after the electicity. So virtually all day without water to wash etc in the heat! |

Given that we have a borehole, not a piped supply, our water failed virtually immediately. On the plus side, we don't drink that water (too much iron) so we always have half a dozen 6-litre garafões of spring water to hand. |
Re: Electricity
A neighbour of ours informed us that it was the result of a drone strike and heralded the beginning of World War 3.
And that we were all going to die of starvation. The authorities here are remaining remarkably tight-lipped about that, preferring to spin some yarn about temperature differences and oscillations or something, but then I suppose They would wouldn't They? |
Re: Electricity
I think it's worth reading, came across few similar opinions today.

https://x.com/BurggrabenH/status/191...IvJsrBJTQ&s=19 What's the gist of it? |
Re: Electricity
Our power also went on just after midnight.
A backup generator is a good idea. I had a little one we bought for our camper van 17 years ago; it died after 20 minutes. I hooked our house to a larger generator my neighbor has lying out at my workshop. No public water supply! That's a scandal. Ours stayed on, I guess the backup generator at the pump station worked. No phones, TV, or internet for most people; that's really bad. Phone exchanges used to be backed up, TV stations too. Now everything is digital and the server farms just stop when the grid goes down. |

Not having a Twitter account - nor wanting to - I can't read that.
What's the gist of it? However, I guess we had better be careful, there might be some Portuguese words there - and we can't have that on a thread about Portugal, can we? |

Or am I being a bit dense and is it all about the red circle around entsoe.eu  |

Oddly my Vodafone PT went down shortly after the leccy went off, so switched to my UK sim, redirected to MEO, nothing, finally to NOS, and had good internet connection right up until around 9 pm, when it packed up. fortunately my power bank was fully charged, unlike the phone. Bombeiros rocked up around 20.30 with water tanker, but power was retuned at 22.30, so they knew very little about it. All a bit odd, be interesting to hear what reasons they come up with??? |

Here is an interesting website, all about leccy production source (by the hour) of every country on the planet. Just click any country to find out more
