Hi,
We were going to come over to Portugal in February to set up an electricity account sort out water accounts etc but Covid got in the way. The cost of doing the same thing in August 8 weeks before our final move and having all the tests done with the associated cost seems crazy. Does anyone have any experience of how long Electric and water takes to to set up.

Really depends on where you are.
When we moved into Fuzeta, the electric was already on, just needed to contact them to change the name. The water took 3 days, as the new meter had to be put on.
But this was almost 16 years ago, so maybe things can be done remotely now.

is the house a new build and thus these are NEW connections? The builder/electrician should advise you ...
Is it a house-purchase that you have done through an estate agent - they should advise you as to how the previous owners have left the situation and how to go about things.
Is it a rustic property where you are starting from scratch?
It is not usual for electricity to be cut off while waiting for new owners to move in - you just change the contract on purchase ...
Similarly with water ...
I presume the costs you are talking about, are the costs of making the trip in August, rather than reconnections?
