Maybe he's forgotten that he did actually have a medical.

You know what they get like at that age.

Or maybe he has paid and will not get delivery of his license until a medical report is uploaded by a doctor. He could be waiting for ever.

I had to get medical for my first PT license in my 50's, again for the renewal at 60.

The doctor mostly just asked questions, and looked up my records on the SNS database. Since I go to the private hospital, even if I was one foot in the grave there would be nothing there...

If your friend paid a broker of some sort, medical check might be included. But I doubt it.

Quite possibly.

I'm sure when I did my latest renewal, for which I needed a medical and made the application online, I was able to check to ensure that the medical had been submitted by my GP. I think I did this before I even started on the rest.

If the licence was obtained by exchange quite recently it may be that the medical used for exchange was still considered valid?

We will never know the truth of the matter until this friend joins in the discussion. One thing is for certain is that a medical is required when you renew your Portuguese license at various ages. I have just done mine prior to turning 78 this month.

The medical is valid for a period of 6 months.

Seems unlikely that someone would exchange and be required to renew the licence within 6 months, since the renewal can be anticipated by up to 6 months.

There is dispensation for someone exchanging at 58 years of age or older to be exempted from the renewal at 60, but it doesn't apply beyond that (and that's not renewal without medical - it's just skipping a normally required renewal altogether).

All renewals at or after age 60 require a medical. I can't see any way round that.
