We have had Permanent Visas and Driving Licenses since 2008. Wy would we need a Citizens Card?

I have had a response from IMT. Basically they've said that the details we entered online when we registered aren't the same as they have on their system (they wouldn't be as we gave them the old EU certificate of residence and now we have the post-brexit card). In any case, they've said that online services are only for citizens not residents. So they've said we need to go to a IMT office but it's not possible to book an appointment as it's a service that is offered on-line (although it's not as we're not citizens). So it's a question of taking a ticket and waiting and when it's busy they reserve the right to suspend that option. Thanks.

The service is not just for citizens - residents , even Brits, can use it as have done so on last two renewals without issues.

Well I'm only repeating what I've been told....But if nothing else it is discriminatory.

I went to our local citizen's office and the nice lady said that she would be able to process the renewal.

I'm guessing it's not discriminatory - it's to do with whether your acceptable photo id matches what IMT have on file. If it doesnt (because your residence or other id doc has changed since the last licence issue), they need to authenticate it again.

A PT citizen's Citizen Card renewal and photo update won't present this obstacle because the photo is automatically available to IMT.

Good that you've managed to progress via a Citizens Shop / Space rather than have to visit a regional IMT Office, though

I have used the online service for both my wife and I, and can confirm that this is correct. It is available for British citizens with resident status and is not only easy to use but is cheaper.

Loja do Cidadão / Espaço do Cidadão are local places where you can access a range of services which might previously have been available only in regional centres. A sort of one-stop shop in your town for dealings with various authorities.

Thank you, Eric. Almost three years here and still much to learn. Great to get so much very useful intel from the BE forum.

Sadly, we don’t have a Loja do Cidade in our town.

Thank you - I wasn’t sure whether we were able to use the Loja do Cidade in a different tow. I will give it a try.
