Dog's on Chains :- Heads Up

Speaking to a friend off mine who is a Bomberio , he said he was on a training course last moth given by the GNR , they where instructed to info the GNR off any instances off Dog's kept on chains as this practice is now Illegal under PT Law !

I wish it were illegal for dogs to roam the countryside unsupervised.

It IS , but the Dog's you are posting about have more than likely been abandoned by there owners !
There's always a "up tick" off loose Dogs when the hunting season closes.

They have collars on and seem to return to the same houses.

Great news, well done Portugal.

Define "kept on chains";
Does that refer to chain choke collars?
Or chains attached to any collar?
Chained at any time, all the time? How much time makes it illegal?
What about ropes or cables?

I know of dogs left in cages forever. Never even walked. Not chained, so I guess it's allowed.

This is a nasty, inflammatory statement that makes me angry.
I know that was your intent.
Thanks, most helpful.

No, I'm not joking. Why get a dog if you're just going to put a chain around its neck and anchor it to one spot? You might think that's an ok thing to do - I don't, I think it's bloody cruel. Well done Portugal!

No;
I don't understand your post and have asked for clarification.
Define 'kept on chains' for the purpose of this legislation.

Then 'welinever' says 'should all be shot bloody nuisance'
Who should be shot? the dogs? dog owners? GNR? Portuguese legislators?
Suggesting anyone, or their animals, should be shot is deeply offensive.

Then 'spouseofscouse' who is apparently in Australia, says he [or she] is not joking, but as it's his/her first post on this thread I have no idea what he/she isn't joking about.

This is a serious subject, and may well have impact on people. It should be treated seriously.

For clarification. Spouse of scouse is a she, does live in Australia (sorry about that) and this is the third post she's made on this thread. Spouse of scouse was replying to the thread she quoted. Given the entire content of that quoted post, spouse of scouse inferred that the poster of that quote was saying all dogs should be shot. Spouse of scouse thinks that a law that prohibits dogs from being chained up is a very good law. Spouse of scouse loves dogs and thinks that anyone who acquires one and then cares so little for their welfare that they chain them up isn't fit to own a dog. Spouse of scouse thinks that people who say all dogs should be shot have some serious problems.

I hope that clears things up. Spouse of scouse has a headache now.
