Default Doctors strike in PT?

My wife had to go for a PET Scan in Porto today but when we arrived the nurses said that there are no doctors to do it. That's all we know as they could not speak English or should I say....we do not speak Portuguese.
Is there a strike? Spent 3 hours travelling for nothing. Sucks.

Algarve daily news announced it yesterday. public sector docs on strike, only emergency rooms working today and [I think] tomorrow.

Specialists get 1,400 a month and are worked to death [our specialist told us today].

Thanks. Chrome translates automatically. €1,400 pm is peanuts. No wonder most doctors and specialists are young and are mostly female. Some specialists look like they just left school.
