Hey, used to be as well. Shall we start an Algarve Ex-Raf section. On second thoughts don't let's bother. I've tried to have as little as possible with it since I left. In fact most to the people I'm still in touch with are ex-matelots:embaressed_smile:

Re: Did you know
My mummy brought me up to be polite, especially to my elders and ladies. Pity they still don't do that:curse: then perhaps the world wouldn't full of rude, inconsiderate and arrogant people:curse:. But don't get me on my soapbox about that

Oh I do so agree. I have brought up my boys to be gentlemen, even if not appreciated nowadays. Manners still do maketh a man IMO

Seriously? I'm in my 27th year with just under 2 to push for the big pay off. Then, it's Portugal for me But Silver Coast probably. But I can understand how a lot of blokes distance themselves from the mob when they leave. It's only then that you actually realise that they really do treat you like shit!

Know what you mean about the treatment. I didn't get on too well with the families officer at my last posting. He took great pleasure in telling me that if I was still on the station at midnight on my last day of service he would have the RAF Police escort me off. To add insult to injury he was a civvie (ex WO).:curse:

Re: Did you know
Entirely believable. And to be honest, it's still pretty much the same today. On his last day a mate of mine went to SHQ to hand-in his ID card after 17 years Service. The SAC was on the phone, so with the phone cradled on his neck so that his hands were free and he could still continue his conversation, the SAC cut my mate's ID in two and that was that. All over in a second. Mind you he's never looked back since.

Re: Did you know
few people now seem to go to work until they are 21, they wonder why there is a pension problem and folks may have to work past 65 to get a pension; People that come to the UK get child benefit, without having contributed etc etc; Politicians are there for the power not our benefit; They are all as bad as each other; they commit our forces to places that do not need us and do not commit them to places where they really could make a difference...... Maybe there should be a 5 year term where the new party of VOTE FOR NONE OF THE ABOVE (Richard Prior) gets elected and apply common sense and some reasonable values............. soap box and last night booze done, after my next beer
