I love the way when I empty my bbq ash tray after using supermarket charcoal, there are always rocks and stones there. I am pretty sure it's possible to make charcoal without accidentally getting rocks in it. The stuff we buy from the side of the road, which the guy says is self-made, seems to do it ok. But supermarket mass manufacturers cannot seem to keep stones and rocks out of it? Pretty obvious it's added to make the weight up, but no doubt they'd just claim it's impossible not to get it there through the production process.

I mean, you can buy a sack of potatoes, which are dug out of the ground, and they don't have have rocks in. But charcoal, which is made by controlled burning of chopped wood, ends up with rocks in?

I have noticed it's far easier to light charcoal here, but I assume that's because the general dryness throughout the summer means the charcoal is bone dry even if you leave it in a sack outside (but under cover).
