D7 Visa : Does it permit stays over 6 months or does it REQUIRE them ?
Regarding the D7 Visa : as I understand it, if obtained, the D7 Visa permits the holder to remain within Portugal for more than six months of the calendar year ( or is it the 12 months commencing with date of issuance ? ).
But my question is : does possession of the D7 also REQUIRE the holder to remain within Portugal for over the six months per 12 months ?
The point being that such a requirement would presumably convert the holder into tax residency in Portugal.
If the D7 Visa does have such an effect ( making its holder tax resident in Portugal ) is there any other category of Visa which would simply permit the holder to stay for as long as s / he wished, eg for a prolonged retirement holiday extending over six months, but without entailing tax residency and the various complications deriving from such ?

If you meant the resident's permit that usually follows the issuance of a D7 visa, then the conditions attached to such permits as to the time permitted to be spent outside of Portugal for the permit to remain valid will result in you being a tax resident of Portugal.

Failed to upload table for D7 requirements.
1st 2 years, at least 16 months presence per 2y period, provided no absence exceed 6 consecutive months.
Next 3y, at least 28 months presence per 3y period, provided no absence exceed 6 consecutive months.
Absence/presence is not counted annually, but in term of residence permit validity from-to.
If you break rule, you wont be issued renewal permit.
Rule are subject to change at any time, as SEF see it fit.
