I think even without the extra legal restriction it would have been a very dubious endeavour to have attempted a pleasure trip from the north of the country to the Algarve.
Thats going to put a damper on one of our neighbours plans then They just had two enormous slides delivered for their swimming pool, presumable to entertain their grandchildren ?

Sorry - wasn't meant to be "at you" and you're not the only one.

I notice on the news today that there is a considerable police presence out on the roads in various places pulling over every single vehicle, asking the purpose of their journey and, if not satisfied that it is an essential one, ordering the driver to turn back.

I'm slightly puzzled as to how, under these circumstances, anybody who is not either a PT national, or normally resident in Portugal, could be admitted into the country unless their mission was likewise considered to be of critical importance. I'm not saying they aren't - I'm just saying I find it a bit puzzling.

At one of the recent daily press conferences, it was said that the estimate for the peak of cases in Portugal is now thought to be the end of May, but there isn't universal agreement on that, needless to say. There are still those who think it will occur in mid or late April. But whenever it happens, that's just when the numbers reach their maximum and start to decline, which still implies a lot of new cases occurring and who knows what measures in place or still in place to try to keep a lid on it / keep people (especially the high-risk groups) safe.

I think it would help considerable if it was made clear that 'old people' are not the only ones at risk...The first two deaths outside of China occurred with a couple in their early 30's ..A 21 yrs old British girl died recently. This virus is indiscriminate, and everyone should work towards keeping their distance and taking all the recommended precautions for the sake of the whole. The SARS outbreak killed just over 8,000 people World Wide. This one has shot into the 60,000 's in a horrifyingly short time .I have to say since the larger and less disciplined ? countries have come to deal with it.If this has been an exercise in control.. its been a dismal failure in countries that should have known how to handle it had they listened to the actual medical experts

It may be that recent stories in the press will help to dispell that thought.

The cynical side of me can't help but think that the deaths of 2 Doctors of Sudanese origin and two nurses in their 30s hits many targets for the media.

The doctors, the oldest of whom was 63, show that the NHS is not only "home" to EU migrants, but to many who seek to work in that great organization.... and not always for the money or status, but because they care.

The death of two nurses is a tragedy in itself, but the backstory of two strong women who struggled to attain their dream as mature students again shows how the amount someone earns does not define them.

The truth is that social distancing will not only protect those who are vulnerable, it will also protect those who have no option but to put themselves in harm's way on our account.

Anyone selfish enough to ignore that deserves everything they get.

According to worldometer (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/) there are now 13,956 and 409 fatalities. It's a moving target.

Be even MORE careful out there!

There are variations in the statistics published...... according to SWMBO, expresso published a map that varies from the one on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_c...ic_in_Portugal) showing neighbouring conselhos as free of cases where Wikipedia shows cases present......

Wiki shows some interesting "hotspot" areas, but, of course, all such stats are also likely to register cases at their point of registration, rather than their actual "home".
