Default county to county travel....restriction?

Ive booked a flight to Lisbon and have phoned a hotel 50 miles away (on a train route) to make a reservation and the receptionist queried whither i was allowed to travel outside the Lisbon area due to covid restrictions. Any truth in her doubts ?

If tourists are exempt, then what is the point of it??

When are you travelling?

From midnight tomorrow until 6.00am on Tuesday, we're not allowed to leave out district.

The list of exemptions is long. Typically a student can travel across districts if they are going home for the weekend..

Not many people happy with arrangement asking exactly the same question as you.

Sorry Loafing Along, I'm more than happy to spend time at home and not move out of Ourique district. I know people can travel for work/study/hospital visits. But just seems a bit odd to let tourists move around when the rest of us can't.

I have a friend who works in the Algarve, but lives locally and he has to have a certified letter from his place of work, so he can travel to and from work.

Pedant here.

The restrictions apply from 00:00 on 30th October, so you're arriving after they start. However, Loafing Along is correct in that non-residents are allowed to travel to and from the location of their accommodation. They're not exempt besides that.

It is too easy to make fun of exemptions / anomalies or say ' if it doesn't apply to X then why does it apply to Y ? '

The point is this: the virus spreads by way of the exhalation of viral particles in breath by persons who are infected with the virus.

The less occasion there is for intermingling of persons ( some of whom will probably be infected, even if they don't know it ) then the less opportunity there is for persons not yet infected to become infected.

The basic restrictions on movement do reduce, somewhat, the occasions for intermingling of persons. Providing for exemptions does not cancel altogether the effect of the basic restrictions.

There were plenty of exemptions to the general lockdown in spring, all over Europe, but it is generally thought to have had a beneficial effect.

Suggest you follow this Safe Communities Portugal group on Facebook - which covers the whole country, not just the Algarve) for updates on what is, and what is not permitted, as rules change from time to time.
https://www.facebook.com/scalgarve.
I believe it was confirmed yesterday that TOURISTS are allowed to travel to and from their desitnations, but only if they have their reservations confirmed and can prove it - carry a copy of your bookings with you.
