Buying "Things" in the UK

Re: Buying "Things" in the UK
I find German companies the worst to buy from and many do not offer English translations on their websites.

I use auto-translate for the website page.
Getting the correct search terms can be tough sometimes.
Transport remains the tough part; either they don't do it at all, or the price is silly.
Maybe some transport companies will start mail forwarding from Germany, France, and Netherlands the way Direct transport and others did for the UK.
BP-sped has a depot in Germany, another in Faro, and has regular transports...

Re: Buying "Things" in the UK
My parcel from Lakeland arrived today, tax free! I had to fill in a few forms but not too bad. If it had been an expensive item then it may have been a different matter. Lakeland were very good and even said that I could refuse delivery and receive a full refund. Yesterday I had a small package from Germany, obviously no tax, and my postman just knocked on my door and handed it to me - so simple! I am sure that things will settle down eventually.

Re: Buying "Things" in the UK
I was at Direct Transport today to pickup things brought in on the last free market transport.
They say if you buy anything online and have it sent to their UK depot, send them the invoice by email so they can clear customs.
It seems to me that it's very possible you may pay VAT twice if you do that.
Maybe ok for 2nd hand ebay things.
Anyway, that's the news so far.

Though it's the other way, if you send stuff to the UK here's what (should) happen at the far end.

Re: Buying "Things" in the UK
I ordered a couple of ebay items from the UK; just couldn't find them anywhere else at a usable price.
Sent the invoice (such as it is) to Direct transport like they said.
And; I've been Brexitized.
They say they can't get anything through because no one seems to know how to do the paperwork, what's required, etc.
Maybe I'll get my items some day.
I kept asking them, "What about Brexit?" and they kept saying they're not worried.

Hi
I have a parcel on it's way from the UK. Each item in the parcel had to have 4 Commercial invoices 26 items X 4.
All the invoices have to be attached to the side of the box.

Wow; that sounds like bureaucracy gone mad!
Good luck, I hope you goods arrive without further worry.

Yes... seems like sovereignty is now another word for bureaucracy!

Hi,
My daughter finally just received her birthday present from her Nan in the UK - 75 GBP's worth of books. It was obvious where it had been delayed ...
The envelope she attached with four copies of the declaration to that effect was not opened, but there was an 'X-rayed' sticker attached.
On delivery by UPS, I had to pay €59.19
The Factura said:
IVA de importação: €8.14
ACESSORIOS: €51.05
(so total of 70% extra in import costs!)
So, does anyone know what these 'acessorios' are, or who is charging them, customs or UPS?

I don't suppose that anyone in the UK Government would be at all interesred in our experiences post Brexit?

Midgo, I would certainly be asking UPS for a breakdown of the accessories/add-ons! Ridiculous!
Are they really going to x-ray every parcel? Why? Is that what they are charging for? and why not look at the precious paperwork?
