Have they started in Portugal yet?

Yes, as part of a combined covid & flu programme, currently scheduling 70+ https://covid19.min-saude.pt/vacinacao-covid

That will extend to 65+ in due course, don't believe any plans for lower age groups have been announced yet

With the numbers as they are and the predicted growth especially around Christmas, I think it's only a matter of time before they start to vaccinate under 65s with a third, or if you had the J&J vaccine second, dose. Interestingly many under 60s will have reached the 6 months post second vaccine day before many of those over 65 as the gap between first and second dose was shortened in May/June time.

Meant to say, 77 year old friend having bis tomorrow, so they're doing the oldies and not so well one's first. Both friend and hubby have lung problems, friend with heart problems too.

Are you all six months past your second shot? I got SMS asking if I wanted the flu jab on the 25th. I am 73 but my 2nd shot was 22 July so guess I can't get booster till end January.

I am at the end of this month, other half next month, so I guess he's just having the flu jab.

So are you not past the six months? I said no to the flu jab but will go for the booster. It did just say gripe on the SMS.

Your choice of course, but some speculation this flu season may be worse than usual, US CDC says "Reduced population immunity due to lack of flu virus activity since March 2020 could result in an early and possibly severe flu season"

Of course there's a "could" and a "possibly" in there and flu vaccines are a bit variable in effectiveness from year to year, so nothing certain, but maybe a greater risk than a normal year (if I can even remember what a normal year looks like!)

We know it is our choice but I have never had a cold in my life and the 'flu twice more than twenty years ago being around many people who had it. I am very much a hermitess npw, live in the country and mask up if I have to encounter anyone out of our bubble/circle. My sister used to get it yearly ... and yearly she got the 'flu!

Fair enough, isolation and mask is probably at least as effective, if not more so! I get the flu vaccine every year (except last year, when it was impossible) since my wife has asthma - she gets it too, obviously ;)

For anyone reading who sometimes does, sometimes doesn't, this is probably a good year to make the effort to do it though
