Astra 2F - Bye bye BBC & ITV?

Looking at early reception reports of HD test signals it looks like we may need considerably bigger dishes to stand a chance of getting a signal down here.
Game of darts anyone?

Yes it looks like a min 1,7 or even 2 mtr dish is required to get the level of signal currently enjoyed.

Hi All

Or you could link your computer to your TV and install Expatsheild and watch LIVE TV.

I don't use a Dish even though i have one, i just download what i want and watch what i want when i want to.

I've heard this story about the satellite signals in the past, and nothing changed much. So before you all go trashing your setups, wait and see what actually happens.
A bigger dish and/or better lnb will probably solve the problem if it turns out there is one.

Yes what part of checking did you do before you posted rubbish.

What Is TVCatchup?
TVCatchup is a new service which lets you watch UK television online for free.
The service is available only to users located within the United Kingdom.

Seems you posted without knowing the true facts. Back to Expatsheild for those who need to get TV on their computer.
So any member who has dish problems do not use TVcatchup unless you are in the UK.

The difference this time that there is A NEW sat and it is on a different orbit thus the signal envelope is not as strong.
You are probably right about a bigger dish, 1.4, 1.7 or 2mtr but who knows .

Good business for the installers but only if the signal can be relied on.
What about Sky reception , how will this be affected ?

At the moment it is pure speculation. Nobody KNOWS what is happening although the indications are that bigger dishes will be required. The new satellite is classified as 2F and there is room for similar satellites 2E,2G and 2H.

My dear expert friend,
It seems that you are confusing TVCATCHUp.COM WITH BBC I-Player , which in fact requires all the parameters you quote.
Tvcatchup can be downloaded for windows and android and perhaps others and works straight out of the box once you complete the free registration.
It does not require any proxies or VPN tunneling or any additional programs.
It works anywhere in the world.
I am in Portugal and it works!
Perhaps my friend, before you let your limited knowlege get the better of you, YOU CHECK! :) :)
Kind regards
sagalaut

Re: Astra 2F - Bye bye BBC & ITV?

To be fair to Peter it does clearly state that you need a UK ISP and must be in the UK. By registering you confirm both these facts.

I have not tried to access in Portugal when have found that some UK sites can detect that you are not in the UK and refuse access.

Re: Astra 2F - Bye bye BBC & ITV?

I have just tried to register on Tvcatchup.com and below is the page that came up. It gives no option to register because it found my IP address is in Portugal.

Unless you are going through a VPN you can't hide your IP address. Iplayer, Itv, Channel, ec all detect that your IP is not in the UK

It is clearly stated that the service also their is a question being answered on the TVcatchup.com Forum.

To get TVcatchup.com you must be using a VPN their is no other way to do it you must hide your IP address.

Default My IP is not recognised

Sometimes even though you're in the UK, it's possible you may see a message saying you're not. This could be because your computer is on a foreign-based network, or is routed overseas (sometimes the case with work connections if your employer is not UK-based). Some programs, such as web accelerators, can cause your IP address to appear as if it is outside the UK.

If TVCatchup doesn't recognise your IP address at all, then you won't be able to stream programmes.

Occasionally it may simply be a network error, so it's worth closing your browser or router and reopening as a new IP address is allocated which may be UK-based.

Our Geo-IP technology system recognises IP addresses provided by UK-based internet service providers (ISPs). If TVCatchup doesn't recognise your address, you must contact your ISP as they alone can register your address.

If your ISP has registered with the appropriate databases, our servers are updated on a regular basis so you will have to wait until the next refresh to gain access.

Why am I now told I'm outside the UK, I wasn't previously?

Sometimes your internet service provider (ISP) will allocate you a new IP address, or will carry out maintenance work that means you are given a new IP address. In some cases, this IP address will not yet be registered by your ISP as being in the United Kingdom, and as such TVCatchup will no longer recognise you as being in the UK, even if you are.

This is something your ISP is best-placed to fix, as stated in the advice at the top of this page.

Why am I incorrectly identified as being outside the UK on my mobile device?

If you're in the UK but see a message claiming that you're outside the UK, it's because your data connection is being routed via overseas servers as such services as the Onavo app.

--------------

Q. I'm an AOL user, why am I having problems, like being told I'm outside the UK?

A. There are known problems with the AOL version of Internet Explorer in that you may appear to be routed outside the UK. Try using another browser, including the Microsoft version of Internet Explorer.

Due to the way AOL operates, this may only affect certain programmes.

If you continue to experience problems, AOL is best placed to answer them.
