Any Aussies out there?

Any Aussies out there?
Well,
Its Thursday afternoon and I am feeling a bit lonely here in Portugal. I am just wondering if there are any fellow Australians anywhere in the vicinity of Lisboa? I haven't come across one in 8 months. I really like Portugal but do you know what I mean? Sometimes you just need to hear your natives country's accent. I guess most expats are hanging out down in the Algarve? Any replies appreciated. I have not moved here permanently, I am here temporarily.

I asked my ma about the lessons but she still hasn't come back to me. I emailed the Lisboa Camara and they did not get back to me either. I am really trying to find them out for you The only thing I can think of is for you to call the Aus, Brit, NZ, US, Canadian embassies and find out if they know where they're being held.

Awh.. muito Obrigada!
Thankyou, that is so nice of you. I appreciate the effort you have gone to.
Yes, good advice. We ended up getting in touch with the local camara too, and they couldn't help unfortunately. I'll be interested to hear what your mum has to say when she gets back to you. We also got lucky and found a cheaper private tutor in the local area but she didn't keep up with the emails - she must have had too many students or something, who knows?
Yes, I might make another call to the Aussie embassy.
Thanks for caring, I'm having a bit of a downer afternoon as you can tell.
Oh well....it'll pass.
Boa tarde,

Thankyou all very much.
I ended up going out to dinner and for a walk, only to get home to learn that my housesitters back in Australia have moved my lounge out into the backyard, and broken my wooden table in two and chucked it in the yard too!! My cats were also left unfed by someone who said they would do it, my god! :curse: What are some people (not) thinking? I'm typing this at 5 am in the morning as my other half is snoring so I cant sleep. It's been a bad day... You all cheered me up for a little bit though, thanks. Thankgoodness tomorrow is a new day.

Re: Any Aussies out there?
I know how you feel. I'm not Aussie, but I am Kiwi, so we are both a long way from home. I've been in London for the last 6 years and am moving to the Algarve next month for winter and possibly longer.
I've just looked up some stats and it appears that there are only 68 NZdrs in the whole of Portugal!!!!!!!!!

Hey there fellow Southern Hemisphere person! lol.
Yes, those stats wouldn't surprise me, I've not come across one Australian person at all up here around Lisboa, I think they are all down south in the Algarve with the rest of the British population!
Make sure you see the rest of the country - really the Algarve is for British tourists - there are so many beautiful places to see other than the Algarve.
I found Arrabida, (just south of Lisboa), Troia (Beach near Setubal), Serra Estrela (highest mountain in Port except for the Azores) and Geres Natural Park (north) to be some of my favourite spots.
And if you can, go to the Azores -amazing, some places reminded me of NZ!

Re: Any Aussies out there?
Going for the winter ....it's really horrible here at the moment, I just walked to the shop and had to wear my fleece! So much for summer in the UK!
We've gone for the Algarve because we have a wee one who is nearly two years old and I really want to get into an Expat environment to socialise him. Definately going to go all out with the lingo thing though! Portuguese is a great language to learn and will be great if bubs becomes bi-lingual, should we decide to stay. My partner is going to commute to London for his work and return in the weekends (yip, he's mad!). But, if it proves too hard for him after winter is over, we are pretty sure we will go to Aussie. Nothing for me in NZ anymore

Wow, thats a huge commute for your husband, although I honestly think I would do the same...I hate London and the weather there. It's so much nicer here - you guys will feel so much better!
This is all getting a bit complicated - a NZ with a British partner (I assume?)moving to Portugal, chatting to an Australian in Portugal, maybe thinking of moving to Australia, lol. Have you been to Oz before? I've been to the south Island of NZ - beautiful!
Thanks for being friendly,
V.
