Amazon Firestick TV
 

Hi All,

Quite a few of my pals are using this Internet TV streaming device in the UK, and I wonder if it works in Portugal. Obviously I appreciate that I will need a decent quality Internet service, but is this the only thing I would need in PT?

Would appreciate any feedback from any forumites who have actually tried this device in PT.

It should work but you will need to hide your IP address as the services will be geo-blocked. You will need a VPN or smart DNS to do this.

I WISH anything worked for long in Portugal..We have tried a few 'systems' Now paying some guy in Almancil 400+ euro's a year for a connection to UK TV.. We are being bumped off more times than ever this month. Ditto our internet connection. OH fizzing last night. The mass of cables and boxes behind our DVD cabinet would make my deceased dad proud

€400 a year is a rip off, it should cost no more than €25 a month for UKTV for the months you are here (subscription paid monthly and nothing to pay if you are not watching). Easyuktv (.com) probably one of the better providers.

If you don't fancy paying at all and you have some interest in the subject then just download the free and open source - 'Kodi' (.tv) - formerly XBMC - there are versions available for Windows, Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi and Android.

Lots of Videos and help with the setup available on Youtube, if you do manage to set it up right you will be able to see every TV programme known to man and then some. Note that ALL IPTV solutions depend on having a good internet connection to your property.

We pay 30 euros per month from TVTim. Beautiful TV & perfect customer service. Anytime we have a problem he takes our call and walks us through the solution, or sometimes even stops by. This is 10-months now we have the settop box. Paid 200 euros for box and then monthly service and in the heavy usage summer months when our Vodafone dongle internet service dwindled to nothing, we just suspended the TV service for July and August.

Thanks Mr Bife will check that out.. We did have someone like TVTim Munster but it all went horrible wrong when the Brits changed their satellite .Couldn't use ours anymore. They are digging up the roads around us at the moment ,laying everything from new drains to cable+putting in roundabouts. Maybe our poor service has something to do with that?We will have to stop wittering about it after christmas and get some answers+ solutions.

Oh dear GeniB, how unfun.
now that we are settled down we broke down and got a 2-year contract with MEO. The package with TV, landline, 2 mobiles and Broadband is 61 euros (B4 Tax) monthly. Didn't want TV or Landline but it was 22 euros cheaper than without them...funny that. BUUUUT had to instantly upgrade the data usage for an additional 9.98 per month as we hit our limit on the 3rd day. (dirty trick!!!) but now TVTim set-top box is grand offering all the BBC stuff and movies and lotsa good programs

Do you mean you get the BBCs on the MEO decoder or another decoder & if the latter, on what sized dish please?

Sorry Mfesharne. It's NOT via a dish nor MEO it is the UKTV settop box via the internet

Don't pay too much for IPTV. Marc Electronica charge me €12.50 a month for a good package of UK TV programmes, incl HD for the important channels. You need about 5 Mb download speed for the best reception which I get from MEO over the old copper telephone wires out here in the countryside (Moncarapacho area). MEO also give unlimited download which is essential for regular TV watching.

I just had a look at the packages offered by the two firms mentioned here. One is cheaper than the other but they offer very different packages.
You pays your money you takes your choice....

I use Filmon, cost nothing and my Vodafone 25€ per month 4G Broadband gives me 30+ MBps download speed and 100GBs per month

Jesse, it must be where you live to have such good internet coverage on our Vodafone dongle.

We too had a Vodafone dongle but in the high season when all the tourists get a dongle for internet access in Cabanas (and Tavira) starting about 6pm we couldn't even register 1! Horrible! Vodafone and MEO share the same 3G towers. And am I correct that 25 Euros a month is on a 24 month contract? Otherwise it's 39 Euros per month. But for folks that only stay a short period of time in Portugal between a 1 week to 5-months not having a 'contract' is a good option because you can 'suspend' the mobile phone account for up to 3-months BUT you can only do this IF you are NOT on a contract.

We live here full time and really love our American, Irish and UK television programs so we chose to have hard wired broadband and bought a UKTV set-top box and pay 30 Euros per month for this. We've no choice to have MEO TV as it's part of the cheapest MEO 'package' at 62 Euros per month: 2 mobiles, 1 landline, broadband, TV + additional 9.95 to have decent data amount of usage on the mobiles). We use MEO TV to watch cartoons and read the Portuguese subtitles to help us learn the language.

Just looked a FILMON the paid program doesn't have BBC1-4 or RTE1-3 etc that I could see anyway...maybe I didn't look hard enough.

We have a similar MEO package to you but with unlimited fibre optic instead of broadband.

Oh and you can get BBC 1 -4 on Camposat.Tv
