Thanks very much for replying! I did think that myself, hopefully my internal investigation will be wrapped up by the scrutinise stage.

can anyone advise what the shift pattern is? Is it 6 on 4 off? 4 on 4 off? And I know they are routinely armed but do they have ARVO?

My station is
X X 6 6 6 X X
15 15 15 15 X X X
6 6 X X 6 6 6
X X X 21 21 21 21
And repeat. There are variations to that due to staffing levels depending on your station.
All shifts are 10 hours in duration.
If you are asking about ARV then you as the response officer and your off-sider are the first to attend. You will find that as we are all armed then we are all ARV in that respect. Depending on where they are you may get a Regional Operations Group unit assist. If the poo really hits the fan then you can also get Tactical Response Group assistance but that is on a case by case basis and has to be authorised at quite a high level. In my 15 years I’ve never been in a situation that I’ve needed them or even considered asking for them. That said I’ve never been in a situation that I’ve had to draw my firearm either.

Has any of the potential applicants found they have been waiting for a length of time to find out if successful or not?
Feels like I’ve been waiting a lifetime, just want to find out now so I can get excited for the move and get the house sold etc. or move on with our life.

It's bought back so many memories of the days I was eagerly awaiting my visa...good luck everyone it really was the best move for me and my family. Having been a member of this WAPOL Blue family for over 10 years I'd advise you to consider a Regional spot. It doesn't have to be forever but you'll gain so much professionally and personally. Currently in the Kimberley but prior to that was in the South West.

With WAPol after 5 years service you get promoted to 1st Connie and after 10 years up to Senior Connie. To gain promotion you have to do a series of on line exams which test your knowledge of law.
If it hasn't changed since I was there and my memory serves me right. At the Academy you're paid the same as a non-recruit Connie, about $77k.(my wife and I lived very comfortably on this for 6 months while she was job hunting) .During the last weeks of the academy, those that have 5 years or more then sit the 1st Class Connie exam which will get you about $85k.
When you get to District, if you have 10+ years you can do Senior Connie straight away, about 95k.
And don't forget shift allowance will add $250 to $300 to your (fortnightly) pay packet.
I was eligible for Senior straight out of the academy, but waited a year before doing Senior. This is because as a Senior there is an expectation you will do acting Sgt. I wanted to get my head around all the systems WAPol use first before stepping up.
As a Senior you then get an automaric pay rise every 2 years for the first 10 years too.
By Australian standards it's excellent pay. Try not to think of it in terms of converting from $ to £ as cost of living is on the whole cheaper here, although not as cheap as it was.
They're not looking for detectives and previous experience won't get you fast tracked. You will have to apply do the detectives training with everyone else.
They only care about General Duties experience, so emphasise this in your application no matter how long ago it was; patrolling, public engagement, statements, crime reports, arrests, suspect interviews, giving evidence at court and such like. Don't go on about detective or specialist roles you've done, they're not interested and it may cause your application to be rejected.

Reading through the above and it's very informative so thanks. With my own circumstances, and while the salary seems attractive and with additional allowances is it good enough to maintain you family on a wage? .Is there potential for overtime earnings? Obviously these feel like I am asking silly questions here but they all are going to help on selling this to the family.
- I am 40, the wife and 3 boys under 7, I think this would be amazing to do. I have 16 years with the Gardai and alot of uniform experience, but there has been alot of change most which is good there is a dispute over rostering which is casting a large cloud over our organisation. Uniform numbers are at an all time low and retention is dreadful at present.

They posted on Facebook that it’s going to be hard to get accepted if you have only recently put in an application so the application has to be really competitive to have any chance of getting in if you haven’t yet sent the application in.

Another thing that I haven’t read on here (although I’m sure it is) is medical expenses. In the UK I would never have thought about getting health insurance but here it’s almost a given and something to consider but it’s not cheap.
When we moved here it was me, my wife and six year old son. My wife initially took on part time work but as our son got older her part time morphed into full time. We had a decent standard of living with her on part time wage, which included an element of after school care.
Overtime is definitely a thing. At present we have a thing called BAU recalls, standing for business as usual. There are also recalls for sporting events and such like so you can easily bump up your fortnight wage packet by a good amount if you are prepared to put the hours in.
