Lots of uncertainty but also lots of excitement. Fingers crossed you hear soon and it’s positive 🤞

Those with 15+ years of service - have you looked into pension options at all?

Maybe a question for some of the posters here, already working for WA police ..

A lot of talk on this thread about those in specialist roles etc. and understandably so given the service and natural progression etc.

With this recruitment drive being for front line officers , so basically response as we would term it here. The clear struggles to recruit and retain locally and the likely want to improve that going forward.
What chances do those applying have to specialise and how soon realistically would that happen in reality?

Response here for example is a different beast to that of say, 10 years ago. A lot of officers make in roads to get away from it as soon as they can. So for those in specialisms accepting a job offer 9k miles away will likely be a real culture shock to the system not just in but out of work also with the country move.

TRG is the hardest specialist roles to get into and Water Police is always hard to get into due to it been a popular specialist role with in WAPOL

That would be very similar in the UK for those roles.
My question is the elephant in the room to be fair:
Example. Pom is recruited on this drive, does their two years on response as requested: came from let’s say traffic or CID and wants to do that again in WA Police. Three others want the available job to; they’re all born ‘Sandgropers’. The realist says the Pom is up against it?
The reason I ask is something similar is happening over here in GMP. Officers internally will apply for traffic and wait years not getting any closer to the role. Only for a transferee with no prior experience from a neighbouring force to be recruited directly into the role to aid their recruitment campaign after 8 weeks from application.
Result; GMP officers are now resigning and going elsewhere.
So if retention is the issue in WA police, it would be a similar storm or those applying from the UK would struggle to specialise. I could obviously be wrong on all counts?

I'm a taser , ppst and medic instructor so would be looking to go training route. I understand I'd have to frontline but hoping to get back I to specialism as soon as possible. To people out there do you think you'd gey stuck on frintline for years or be able to move off

Personal and public safety training. Not all forces in the UK do it or call it that. 👍

So my interview was 4 Jan. I waited 8 weeks for a reply they said that one of my references was late. My husbands interview was 26 Jan.
I’ve got 14 years in. 9 on response and 5 as a DS in CID. My husband has 17 years in. He did 11 on response and the rest in ARV. To be fair I was surprised I passed as I heard that D’s struggle so I am hoping his will be fine as he is still front line 🤞
What has been the issue with DS's struggling? Im a DS waiting for an interview date at the moment.

Hi. I’ve not heard in this round of recruitment but in the past recruitment drives I knew I’d detectives not getting through. Sorry didn’t mean to cause confusion

Ah ok thats a relief. I'm happy going back to response work as that is what is required and i enjoyed it. At some point would be happy to be a Detective again but as this point its about doing whatever is needed.
