QUESTION - BRIT POLICE ABROAD
Hi all,
I wondered; have you ever heard of any British police shadowing forces from other countries at all? To see how things are done in say America, Australia etc etc?
Many thanks,
Eddie

Re: QUESTION - BRIT POLICE ABROAD
I've heard it happen, but generally for a specific purpose rather than 'shadowing'. For example, here in Canada, we've had people go over to the UK for things as diverse as seeing how PSU training is done and how RIPA works. Equally, we've had UK police officers over for conferences on such topics as Somali gangs and child pornography.
Generally though, to 'shadow' a police officer abroad (as opposed to a simple ride-along) for any length of time and not be a liability, you'd need a gun or at least the relevant qualification in the jurisdiction you're going to.
In short, probably much more complicated than it sounds.

The IPA has opportunities for doing exchange programs; that may be an option.

A lot of US police departments will offer 'ride alongs'. If your ever on vacation contact a local police department to find out of it can be arranged. Expect to sign a lot of waivers though!
