I'm looking at applying for WAPOL.

I was looking online, and at the form. It seems I'll go in on 5th year wage, $73, 183. Does anyone know how to work out what tax I'd pay on that, so I can work out my take home pay?

I've looked on the ato.gov.au website as I'm applying myself and like you am considering the practicalities of cost of living and the like on a coppers wage. Don't forget the shift penalties will add a few extra dollars. It seems that in the region of 20-25% deductions isn't too far off when all is said and done

I looked at that website actually, the only thing is, I wasn't sure if tax was different for police, than other occupations, like it is in the UK.

No difference you get the taxed at the same rates as everyone else!!

The ATO site listed above is what we use for all our client dealings too.

I would guess that the average take home pay for a 5th year Constable, working shifts to be around $2200 - $2300 This obviously can be higher with the addition of some O/T

Only just got my application completed and required paperwork gathered up. So without getting too far ahead of myself, I'm half looking at whether the sums add up should me and mine get that far. For those out there, do the above figures look about realistic for take home pay?

The figures are about right, other than to say when you do the 13weeks training, you will not have any shift penalties etc (which do add up, so you will be on a flat month). The take home pay seems to go further than UK pay, even though some things are more expensive in WA.

Yes, sorry I should have said this would be per fortnight.

During training you will be on $2170 per fortnight take home. After that you add all shift allowances etc on top. Hope that helps your planning.

if you go country you can take home up to $4,000 a fortnight...
