Police in New Zealand
We lived in Napier, NZ for 15 months coming back to the UK a year and 1/2 ago due to family probs.
I have since joined the police in the UK and have recognised our big mistake in coming back to Ingerland!
As much as I love the place of my birth, the lifestyle we lived whilst in NZ was on another level in so many ways........
We intend to return to NZ in a couple of years time (residency permitting !) and I am trying to get hold of someone who can give any advice about joining the NZ police or even what the differences between here and there in terms of policing are.
Has anyone had any dealings with the police (that they want to admit to!) ?
Any advice would be very greatly appreciated.
Duncan.

Are you eligible to join the New Zealand Police?
Before going any further, check the basics. To qualify as a potential recruit, you must:
be a New Zealand citizen, or have a residence permit and be living in New Zealand permanently
hold a current Driver's Licence (full class B or class 1)
be physically and mentally fit
notify the Recruitment Office of any criminal or traffic convictions (including warnings, court appearances and diversions). If you don't notify the Recruitment Office, your application may be terminated. People with criminal, drink-driving or other serious driving offence convictions are not eligible to join the New Zealand Police. Less serious convictions will be assessed case-by-case.
have sound judgement
have good spoken English
demonstrate good literacy and numeracy skills
Applications from people with previous police experience from outside New Zealand
Like any applicant, you must have either New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency in New Zealand when you apply to join New Zealand Police.
You would be required to undergo all aspects of the New Zealand Police recruiting process. If successful, you would be accepted for training.
We will then assess your prior experience and create an individualised programme. This may reduce the time you spend at the College.
After two years as a probationary constable or less if your prior experience and qualifications are assessed as relevant, you can proceed to specialist fields or apply for promotional opportunities.
Please contact your nearest recruiting office when you have obtained Permanent Residency in New Zealand: phone 0800 NEW COPS (0800-639-2677).
Attend an information seminar to find out more about the recruitment process. Phone 0800 NEW COPS (0800-639-2677).

Re: Police in New Zealand
I had a good friend who went to NZ with a Police recruitment programme the same as the current Ozzie one.
He must have been there a couple of years now in Aukland, I tried but was too late, they said that they may look into it again at some stage, but I dont think they did.
E-mail them and ask if they might do it again, you may be lucky.
