Default Police Officer Vacancies in Australia or Canada

Hey there folks. Looking for help. I am interested in AFO work in Australia or Canada. Have been in the job 7 years now, 6 Years as Firearms officer and 4 years Dynamic Entry Team. Really want to keep Firearms side of things going but cant see any Police Departments / Forces that Specialize or have good write up. Went to look at Calgary website and noticed the local temperature was -1 C and quickly pressed back button LoL

Can anyone help me. Thanking you in advance

Normski

Hubby currently going through the training with Calgary. All officers here carry firearms so they would all be AFO's I guess. There is no equivalent of an ARV, exactly. The more specialised 'Tact' team is pretty small, with only a few vacancies a year. By Met standards, they are not at all busy. By small county standards, they are not that busy but similar. I understand it may definitely be a case of your face fitting, reputation, donating your first born and working for Calgary for at least 37 years before you might be considered . OK, I exagerate, but not much

I can only imagine that if the city continues to expand at the rate it is, and with rather more high profile murders in the last year or so, that department may become more busy.

Can't answer for Oz at all. We have snow flurries today - what's wrong with that?

I'm going to state the bleedin' obvious now but the weather is probably the only real difference ! Sunshine and hot, or sunshine and cooler. Personally, I just wanted sunshine and I don't 'do' 38 degrees and spiders!

Police work will be much of a muchness the world over. However, don't write off how professional your average UK bobby is - regardless of bureacracy and the c**p that accompanies it. You'll get the c**p everywhere !

Do you like to ski or surf? Could you afford either? Weigh up the costs of living threads in both sections of this site - what kind of equity can you bring with you - what will that buy you at either side of the world? Do you have kids? Expensive wee loves - what do you want to offer them? If you wanted to, could you afford a flight back to the UK easily? And definitely read the 'Moving Back to the UK' section too for some perspective.

AFO'ing can be done anywhere if your have the skills and determination. It's everything else that counts

Happy hunting - and if any of us can assist on the Calgary side of things, do shout !! Best wishes. (I'm still waiting for my flurry!)

Can only speak for the Calgary side of things.

Everyone is permenantly armed here, but Im sure you knew that.

CPS welcomes any previous experience as it is a bonus to the Service, but dont think that just because youve done things before you can waltz into speciality positions....cause you wont.

There are a few "experts" here at the moment that portray that they are the saviour of Calgary cause they done it before Its not the UK. Wrong attitude to take.

The job is the same the world over, just enjoy the better standard of living it affords you...in a lovely country
