Hey Daunted... Did you apply for this wave in International Recruits or have you done it separate because your son is already serving? I had all the forms, filled them in and took ages getting together all my other doc's but in the end didn't apply as some personal circs changed. I am always on the look out to jump ship from the UK and nothing will stop me if the opportunity arises again, it's just a case of waiting I guess... Good luck and fair play to you though... :thumbsup:

Hi..my son had his PR visa already so applied as a recruit ..... I am now an australian citizen so that was my route.
I have no uk comparison but my son did and is loving his new role.

Well good luck, I think it's a fantastic opportunity. Were you serving in UK? I guess I'll just have to wait it out and hope. My heart is set on Canada to be honest as have spent quite a bit of time there but that is a big no go for the time being as they aren't recruiting from the UK and probably unlikely to change in the near future

I gather from your previous posts that your son served in the UK but is very happy having moved to WAPOL - Is he based in the Perth / Metro area?.
Am i right in thinking you are also serving with WAPOL?
Having applied as part of the recent international recruitment drive I am curious about what, if any support is given to moving over and getting somewhere to live?

I understand that new recruits will initially be based in the metro area but if I settle there can I stay? Or/and have some say in the area I move to?

Also, (and I know this is getting ahead of myself a little) but what are the development opportunities - such as becoming a detective or working up the ranks really like?

Oh also - although the pay in comparison to the UK and with the exchange rate looks good - what is the standard of living on an Police wage really like in WA?

No financial support is given and you will rely on fellow cops and forums like this to get an idea as to where you might like to live.Once you arrive here you will get a more realistic idea as to where you want to go.

As things stand at the moment, Metro stations have a minimum tenure of 2 years, unless you want to go country, or specialise, in which case you can leave earlier. Maximum tenure is 4 years, but isn't necessarily strictly enforced. I know people who have been at stations for much longer than this and for whatever reason, they are left alone.
And yes, you will have a say in where you move to, unless you ignore repeated advice "that it's time to go" in which case they might find somewhere for you!

The same as back home, if you put the time in and make yourself a good candidate, you can do pretty much what you want.

Pretty similar to the UK, but a lot will depend on how much money you can bring over from the UK, how many kids you have and if your better half works etc.
I'm sure you'll be aware, Perth is a very expensive place to live, particularly when it comes to housing costs. So what appears to be a higher salary, quickly gets eaten up by rent/ mortgages

hey everyone,

i have received an email saying i have got through to interview etc stage on the international recruitment drive 2012! i attended london 26th oct for an aptitude test.

i would like to know if there are any currently serving/training members of WAPOL on here. i would really love if someone could tell me what questions etc come up in the interview etc..
Its been 6 years since i did my interview for the gardai (irish police force) so im very rusty. if someone could let me know what sort of questions come up and what life is like etc it would be hugely appreciated!!

What date is your interview?

I'm hoping the realistic job preview session will shed some more light on what life will be like - I'm wondering if the time at the academy will be residential?

Nope, you will have to find your own accommodation, prior to starting at the academy

Does anyone know what format the panel interview will take? ie competency etc..??
Also on the emails it states that if you are subject of an internal investigation you can not continue..does this refer to general complaints made by members of the public, as a front line response officer your bound to get some complaints during the recruitment process? or does that refer to the more serious misconduct/corruption stuff??

I don't think having an outstanding complaint will stop you from going though the selection process, but it will have to be cleared up before you start with WAPol.
