Default Edmonton Police Service, Alberta, Canada

Just thought I'd send this link out there. The Edmonton Police Service, Alberta, Canada is accepting applications from international candidates, preferably with current law enforcement experience, or ex military on a case by case basis.
Here is the link:

If you need any information on our service or the area we police, send me a PM

Stay safe

Sounds interesting. I wonder if other forces will follow suit?

Certainly interesting to see Canada has opened up, though the website certainly isn’t be clearest when it comes to the process and whether it requires you to be in Canada for most of the stages.

I have already had someone (in the police in the UK) contact me (in the police in Edmonton) about this.
From what I gather from him, you:
1. Complete the online application and then..
2. Have a 'Teams' meeting online, and if they like you, then...
3. Arrive in Edmonton and do all your tests and assuming you pass, and get an offer...
4. Your Permanent Residence is done under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program**

The whole process taking 8-12 months (?)

**This is my guess. I can't see how else the EPS could solicit invitations to join without offering some pathway to Permanent Residency.

Hi,
Has anyone submitted their application in yet?
I took a while to complete it, but I did manage to submit mine in just before Christmas last year, waiting to hear.

Regards
Bart

I know someone who completed the initial application package probably in November. His BDI interview is arranged for mid-Feb and (according to him anyway) they are looking at getting him over in April/May for the rest of the process.

Hi all

I'm new to the forum so can't PM. Was just after some information if anyone can help.

I am currently a serving Police officer in the UK. I have 11 years Policing experience (2 years Police community Support Officer, 9 years Police Constable) and currently working on ARV (armed response vehicle). I understand that EPS is now open to international applications and if possible I'd like some more information regarding this.
Would a transfer be possible or would I be starting from scratch?
Would my family be eligible to come with me on one application and would EPS sort this? (I have a wife and 2 young children, 1 of which is autistic and has a learning disability). Any information regarding the process would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help with the police side of things at all, but I would strongly suggest you search the main Canada forum for info on the visa medical and/or autism provision in Canada. There will be a lot of relevant threads that are worth reading.

Good luck.

Ah, I read a little on how things had improved in Canada/Alberta regarding disabilities. However on reading people's recent struggles it would appear not by much.

Our child would be considered "severe" in layman's terms of autism and disabilities (1st percentile).

We have fought tooth and nail get the provisions he had here in the UK. He has a specialist school for children of similar abilities and is likely to be here until at least 21 (potentially 25).

There is obviously housing and activities for when they're older in life, many of which we have looked into already.

I naively assumed things would be similar in Canada especially on seeing the odd piece on improvement.

It appears there's no safety net for when the parents are gone and on that my dream move to Canada may be over before it started.

You would be starting from scratch, but they recognise 5 years service for pay purposes.

If approved for the visa, your spouse/kids get the same (permanent residency). If offered a job by EPS, you get a provincial nominee letter for the visa application process, but you have to apply and pay for it yourself.

It would be worth researching if your son would be eligible for a visa - I know Australia are knocking people back due to a child having an autism diagnosis, they calculate how much it would cost the healthcare system and use that to decide whether or not to grant a visa.
