Hi all,

I'm going over to Canada in the next couple of weeks to have a look and hand deliver my application to Edmonton Police.

Just trying to tie up all the loose ends and am just wondering where people who applied and have been successful in their application got their hearing and eye tests done.??

I'm not too fussed about the eye test as i'm sure that any opticians will be able to carry out the suitable tests. I'm more bothered about the hearing test.. I spoke to my Occupational Health at my force and they apparently won't do them. My doctor reckons I may have to go private (OUCH, sounds expensive!!!)! Any help and advice in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Hi Dom,
i didnt have to do a hearing test before i applied to Calgary. the sight one is a standard eye test which i had done at the opticians.
i had my hearing done a few months ago for CBRN duties, and i know it was fine. maybe i may have to do one when i go for a medical...

Hi mate, thanks for your reply.

I have even asked the question as i thought they may test you as part of a medical or something but they've said that i do need to get a hearing test done!

Like i say, i asked my GP and he didn't really know, just suggested i might need to go private - bummer!

Thanks again mate... hopefully will get it sorted! So have you started in Calgary or you still waiting? I have a mate who goes to panel on the 1st Oct to see if they're going to hire him in Calgary.

Right, sorted. Just in case anyone looks on this thread and wants to know.

Specsavers do eye tests and will sign the forms for £17 (Thats what i'm quoted anyway) and they also do hearing tests - £20 ish quid!!! Happy days. I am told that the Optician and Audiologist will both certify and complete the forms and provide copies of wht tests are undertaken.

hopefully when i get my job offer sent through (so far 15 days and no letter!) i will need to know where to go!

No problem. I was gutted cos first they said the hearing test was free! Happy days. Then as i was writing my reply on here they rang back saying that it's only free for people with genuine hearing problems... Fair enough i suppose ha ha!
