Evening all, (bend at knees)

Is there anyone out there who has signed a contract or was offered employment with SA Police? Been doing some searching on the web and whilst there is plenty of discussion of the 60 officers starting in March, I cant find any mention what so ever of any further UK officers being held in a pool or considered for courses later on in the year!
Personally the ENT specialist that I saw today will do me a favorable report, so I should be able to send that off to Sa next week some time. Fingers crossed there will be someone next to a fax machine in Adelaide to receive it and pass it on to the correct person...

Does anyone actually know how many Aussie dollars we will be paid (take home)?

Hi Dan,

Don't think it's worth worrying about the papers etc not mentioning us.It's not in anyones interest to mention the pool in case we upset the liberal party because we do arrive or they upset us because we don't. I think SAPOL know the implications if they don't take us!!!!!!!!!
In answer to your question. For the first 12 weeks you are on Aus$ 35,000 (divide by 2.6 to make it into British snots). After that you get a bumper pay rise to Aus$48,500 including shift allowance.About £18,550. You get about $1500 per year pay rise thereafter plus they average a 6% increase.I think they are due a boost in the next year or two.

As an aside to all. Worth a look for info, books, maps and advice is

www.movingdownunder.co.uk/file/finance.php

Still haven't found out about equity tax. Anyone?

Hi,
If you were reading these threads in Aus you'd have now come to realise that either were completely off our heads or we actually do want to come and work for them, but! they probably think we must be nuts putting ourselves through this. I seem to be drinking more these days...... wonder why?
I have to say that at the moment i don't know whether I'm coming or going. It really is torture, people at work keep asking when are you going and I have to say "I don't know when (or if)".
Iv'e not posted for a few days and read the latest posts, as per pr Info day were all guessing and hoping for the best. We will not be putting the house up for sale until we have a date. for those who didn't meet us on the info day I'm Chris, 6 years in with West Mids (16 pensionable as i brought 10 from the Army). Cheryl my wife works in Financial acounting, no kids.
Ann..... I think Cheryl took some photo's in Walkabout so I'll get her to send them to you for the web site etc.
Brains a bit dead due to mucho wineo so catch you all later Chris

Anyone seen the latest news report about our Liberal friend Mr Brokenshire. He is at the centre of a corruption allegation!!! He'll probably wriggle out of it like politicians do.

Gosh folks!

It's all gone a bit quiet - have we all run out of steam? ..... too knackered from this week's exertions?......... or is it just the killing of Den Watts and Andy Hunter in the same episode of Eastenders just too much to bear!?

Well WEEK ONE down- just another to go - let's hope it goes a little quicker than this week eh?

Having our x rays done on Monday - decided to bite the bullet. Can forego the costs of x rays (although not the cost of medicals) .... like to be prepared (and positive!)

Chins up!

PS Another good website for info is www.auinfo.com . It gives some price guides, school holiday dates, maps etc. Some good links. Have a look.

Hi Ang,
I'm still here reading in hope that something has happened. I just watched that **ap on TV. I wont allow my kids to put it on. That's one thing I wont miss in OZ. Please tell me they don't get it down there!
Our house officially goes on the market tomorrow although we've had the estate agents in for the last 3 days doing photos details etc.My mate thinks we'll get an offer in the first week 'what will I do then'?.
I keep looking around for what to tidy next and what needs throwing. If we don't go I'll have to go to Ikea for a week just to fill it up again. Think I'll go at midnight to miss the rush!
Apparently theres an Ikea in either Perth or Brisbane. Think I'll pop over and get some tea lights when we get there.
Well washing up and kid to bed now, wifey out on piss tonight we're having our CID Xmas do re run tomorrow night, the first one ended in a power cut. At least it's freem Yum more Turkey!!!!!!!!!!
Best wishes all.

Thank God ... someone's still reading the site. Nothing's changed (as youalready know!) Only English prog they still run in Oz is 'The Bill' and of course 'Neighbours'. If you're going to Ikea, I believe Edmonton is to be avoided!

Tea lights, bean bags and inflatable beds sound very appropriate!

Enjoy xmas dinner II - I need at 12 monthg ap between turkey dinners (at least!) and hopefully Mrs RonnieCat doesn't have too much of a hangover in the morning. I'm waiting for Mick to get home from shift (12 hours today), one kid in bed, one kid on sleepover at a friends' (bliss!)

Keep checking

Shall we start a new thread?????? - JOKE

Anyway - off to bed early start again, One of the kids is staying away at relatives and one baby asleep for now..... but on yet another course of antibiotics.... so will be up and down like yo yos again. Cant wait for the summer and coughs and colds to vanish.. Question is will it be summer over here or winter in OZ????? Please someone at SApol put us out of our misery!!

Sleep tight you lot.

Hi all, and welcome to Gail and Fraser, well done on taking the plunge and joining the thread.

I have started a (very) small webpage called 150 for us to add our photos and details for those who want it. If there is anything else people want ((as long as it is legal) just let me know. I can created a useful links page if people think that would be helpful. I am still waiting for your photos and info! Us Rippos are getting a little embarrised being the only ones there.

As for the site going quiet...well I was stuck at work on my own last night, and just thought everyone else must be out on the last night...felt lonely

BUT I did pick up a kebab on the way home and caught the end of Eastenders on BBC3 - :scared: , haven't watched it for ages...and saw the sky news report on SA, the poms were sitting in a park having a bbq, the sky was sooooo blue!

As for today, my lovely husband got up with the kids and has taken them out so I didn't wake up til 1030am.....(can't remember when I last stayed in bed that long!!) . I've got my painting gear on.....just need to get some enthusiasm to start. Decided to Ann Maurice the house, and bit of cleaning, neutralizing and decluttering!!

Going to cinema with my 6 yr old later. Probably going to watch Magic Roundabout. Has any one seen it? Is it any good? Maybe we should watch Racing Stripes instead?

Have a great weekend everyone,

Ann

Chris and cheryl,
Thanks for sending me the photo's although i have not seen them as i am completely usless with computers and lost them somewhere before i saw them, ive probably sent them to a swingers site by accident :scared: ...lets hope not... i was only joking about the photo's, I really dont mind you publishing them for all to see, i didnt crack the camera so im sure they are suitable.

All of our hard work has paid off over Xmas, the money is in the bank...yipee. Our loan will be paid off and the bank manager will be pleased. The credit card will be cut up now, as that will be paid off, just for us to start again what with more reno's to the house. We need the front side and rear gardens done yet as well as th onsuite bathroom finishing, one bed room and the lounge and hallway/stairs, but believe it or not we can see the end at last.

My friend in Oz has just sent us 4 little one measure bottles of Bundy rum through the post mmmm for us to make a tioast with when those dates come through.

im looking forward to getting over there and spending some time with my hubby, we are on completely different shifts at the mo and with my 4 hours a day O/T we are like passing ships in the night.

Welcome to the new members before you know it you will be rushing home to read the new replies. A bit like East enders for some i guess... but not me... honestly. I only set up the video to tape 6 weeks worth when i went to Oz, but that was 10 years ago and didnt do it when i went 2 years ago. Think last nights episode was a bit boring.

anyway time to go to work again in the freezing cold and no doubt rain... it always rains and when it isnt raining its pouring.

Lets hope i will be cracking those Bundys open next week and have a little sunshine in our lives.

The News thingy was uplifting, the more the better, but are the right people seeing it, lets hope so.

catch up with you guys later.

Keep smiling

Is anyone else watching re-runs of 'house doctor' on UK Style in the hope of catching the odd selling snippet?

If not, don't forget, de-clutter, present a blank canvass by painting the walls with with neutral colours and take down those family photos!!.

Don't be offended if someone says your house suffers 'doggy odour', do something about Rex, chief, meg or Ben. No, don't put them down!! even if they do cost an arm a leg and a head to take to Oz. Buy some cheap neutral carpets and light some candles to ward off the whiff.

It's all about finishing touches, so finish off all those small odd jobs you've been meaning to do for ages and put a mirror in the hall to create an illusion of space.

Don't mean to nag but after all, I am the only gay in the 1-5-0 club. (Ivory in B+Q is an excellent neutral colour for walls, we've got it everywhere, the house looks as if it's doubled in size.)

Brian,

PS

DC in the Met @ Streatham. Glad someone else is snowed under in robberies!!
