Can I apply if I resigned from UK police to Australia?

I am currently travelling the world for a year after resigning from The Police after my career break was rejected?
Can anyone assist with any jobs that I may be able to apply for I the Australian/NZ police. I specialised in child protection and loved it

Many thanks

Australian Police Services are individual to each State, apart from the federal Police for which you must have citizenship. You would need to check all the States and see what their policies are. Some - like Queensland - will only employ you if you already have permanent residency or citizenship. Western Australia currently has a recruitment drive for UK police transfers, there are threads in this forum about it, so check those for details.

Can't help on NZ I'm afraid.

You can join the WA Police if you've resigned from another police force, but only if you resigned within the last....something. Three years I think, but I could be wrong on that.
If you only resigned recently you should be eligible as far as I know.

Only thing is, you'll have to get a truckload of documents and certification together as part of your application. Certification of sick leave, annual leave, career history, assessments...all sorts of different stuff.
Might prove difficult if you're travelling at the moment, unless you can apply for all those things over the phone.

You wouldn't be able to work in child protection for a good while after you came over. You'd be out on the beat, back to square one.

Thank you. I resigned in December. Getting all the documentation won't be a problem. I just loved working in the child protection team and would like to do something like this in Australia .

You can apply to WAPOL if your service is between 3-10years however as said previously it is a front line position you will be filling. If you do apply make sure you put this across, any hint of wanting a non-frontline position early on in the process can disadvantage you. Also be prepared to cover why you resigned from your previous position e.g. traveling etc

Yeah..they really don't care about any previous specialist work you might have done, they already have their own people in those positions. They are only looking for, and I quote, 'Boots on the ground'.
