Default Brit Officers in the USA - question!

Hey all,

I'm not sure how active this forum is but I've stumbled across it when looking for information in working in the USA.
I served 8 years in the Met Police before moving to the USA last year, and I'm looking at Policing again in the US.

I understand that most states require citizenship to apply for police jobs, however I understand that some states (ie, Colorado, Vermont, Maine, Hawaii, Illinois, and Louisiana) do allow non citizens to become Police Officers, if the forces within those states are happy to accept them.

My question is are there any Brits out there who are in my position, any trodden this path or serving in such a capacity (as a permanent resident - not citizen)?

Many thanks for any help/advice.
