WA plumbing licence and white card
Good day all,
I'll be arriving in Perth in February 2012 and hope to hit the ground running. That means applying for a tradeperson's licence (I've done my vetassess and have an OFTR) and a WA white card. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to be licenced once my application form for the licence is sent off? Is there any particular study manual that one has to revise (like the health and safety one in the UK) for the white card? Looking forward to our new life in WA! :) Thanks guys plumberpaul |

I presume its like the UK's CSCS card. You can do the course and test online before you get to Australia, but I left it too late and it seemed like to much of a mission to be honest (certifying photos and documents etc) Only to happy to help a fellow tradie, ukjoiner. It'd be so cool if other tradies would let their voices be heard on these forums ... especially plumbers! :p |

Also i know there is a company called tradies down under (gap training, but that is £3000) it is just a mindfield.... We do have a immigration agent but could do with help reguarding plumbing etc!! Sarah (on behalf of gerald) |

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone in this thread would be able to give me any advice on the vetasses skills assessment for migration. I have completed the certificates stage and my next step is to have the piratical assessment. What sort of things does it involve ect? Any help would be greatly appreciated |

prac test was from what i remember in 3 parts, a bit of drainage (suspended drainage), some copper work with a bit if brazing and a bit of screwed steel, nothing to bad really, and some questions as your going along, whole thing takes about 6-7 hours, i needed it for immigration and once in aus it counts for nothing, doesnt get you any tickets down under, good luck with it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated The Vetassess is dead easy and straight forward. A bit of practical (installed stub stack drainage with a basin waste and toilet) a bit of copper and barrel pipe for gas units, a bit of copper bending and brazing and a few theory questions. I too did my vetasses in north london at Dollis Hill in April 2011. Nothing to stress about, trust me. Vetasses means bugger all - its just a money making scheme and another tick of things to do to get your visa. Once you arrive in Australia you start fresh. You can apply for a tradespersons license but you have to go on a mandatory 2 week migrant plumbing course which helps you familirise yourself with the Australian Standards. I've been in perth for nearly 6 months now and have been working since my 3rd day and am in my 2nd job (left the first because of shitty money). I'm plumbing transportable containers for the mine sites up north. GOod luck with your process ... |

Evening Paul
I will be landing in Perth in June 2013 and I'm trying to gain as much info as pos regarding plumbing and the licenses for the trade. I'm an advanced craft plumber myself of 20 years but haven't done my gas qualifications, I tried to click the links you left but they won't open. I'm thinking about working for the mines myself, if you can give me any info it would be great. Cheers hope to speak soon |
