Gas transportation
 

Does anyone know if the TRA will accept an application if the majority of your work and qualifications are from the gas network ?
in short i started with British Gas but after the shake up i became part of what was formley known as Transco and now National grid gas.
will 16 years of experience and qualifications really mean anything to them as i have not touched a heating system for over ten years?
Im asking about Gas mains ,metering and classification work.

hi
gas fitter does not require a trade test i believe, only general plumber, i had a mate go the gas route, same as you ex transo ect, he went through ok on his quals. still had to get skills and quals assessed but not the new vettasses route with trade test. someone will soon correct me if im wrong.

Thanks for that.I was a bit concerned as when British gas split up i went down the Transco line and as the company paid for all the corgi registrations they deemed it unneseccary to continue paying for the appliance fitting and servicing as we do not do it .Like a fool i never took it of my own back to renew them either:unsure:.
After looking at the trade details im sure it states that you have to have been doing it for the last for years which obviously i havent .

I worked for Transco (TSE) for 4 years prior to moving to Tas. Prior to that I served my time as a plumber and then worked as a heating installer and gas service engineer. I spoke with OE Visas in 2004 who initially said I wouldn't get my 'skills' approved by TRA. The issue was I wasn;t eorking in the field in which I was apprenticed and a Transco Service Engineer wasn't on the Skilled Occupational List. After a couple of weeks they put me onto a guy called John Nye, his company is AMSAS in WA(you should be able to google him, check the immigration website on this forum as he used to post on it). John sorted out the paperwork and I was classified as a general plumber. When I arrived in Tas I secured a job with the gas distributor without too much trouble. If anyone can help you John can!

I am still a TSE but its now called National Grid Gas not Transco.
