Hi, Im thinking of going to the Phhilipines to visit my partner's relatives. I hear the islands are nice but is it true that there is a very real threat of piracy?

Just keep away from the beaches and you should do just fine.

We live in Cebu and have always felt safe.
There is a foreign Office advisory re travel to parts of Mindinao due to the problems there but conversely there are expats living there who have never had a problem. google foreign Office Travel Advice. Some foreigners have been kidnapped in this area in the past admittedly.

Do you really mean "piracy"? Are you planning a boat tour around the 7102 islands of the Philippines? If so then I've never heard of any.

There can be the usual problems of pickpockets etc in the large cities but thats the same in most places - even London!

Certain areas can be a bit dodgy after dark , especially for a foreigner but I'm sure people will tell you which areas to avoid!

forget your apprehensions and come on over - you'll love it here!
