Unexpected danger
We all know you need to watch out when outside the home here. But sometimes the places where you run a risk can be unexpected..
Yesterday went into the local SM Hypermarket for the first time. At the checkout as you went to its exit where you collect your groceries there were two small diameter hollow metal tubes protruding at about the height of about 5 ft 8.in. They were uncapped but thankfully I was and as I leaned forward my brim came into contact with one of the tubes. Only then did the ladies there gave me a warning and in our discussion we agreed that most Filipinos would not have a problem. Though I pointed out that many Expats would. All the checkouts had the same two protruding tubes. Then a couple of weeks ago I needed a check on my car brake lights. Saw a new car electrical shop and, as you do, quickly pulled into the well surfaced forecourt. Job done I went to pull out. The technician jumped to guide me out, frantically waving me into a certain direction. Why? To avoid a largish uncovered, not indicated square hole as you went out. He explained it allowed access to some water valve. I didn't see it on the way in but luckily my wheels missed it. Otherwise a car wheel could be stuck in it and damage that valve. I suppose the business doesn't want to put people off pulling in and it was early so maybe the worker there could give a warning at other times...but.... |
Re: Unexpected danger
The most dangerous place I know of is our local meat and veg market when it is or has been raining. Not because the floor is wet although have slid a couple of times, it is not the meat that has been rescued from the feral dogs and put back on the display still with teeth marks in it. It is the little old ladies with the rolled up umbrellas tucked under their arms, I am poked, prodded and stabbed multiple times when going there after it has been raining.

Re: Unexpected danger
Another danger in our area is where they have widened the road to include a second lane. In the budget they forgot to include for moving the electric poles so they just left them in the middle of the lane and painted them yellow and black.

Re: Unexpected danger
They've done this in our area as well but didn't bother painting them!
