Default TCWS No 1

Commonly known to the public as "Signal No 1".
I'm sure many people would have no idea about TCWS. It stands for Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal.
As usual government communicating badly.

Secretary and VP Duterte has had a great idea...automatically cancel public school if TCWS No 1 is announced by PAGASA.

I believe private schools also follow public schools in this.
Removing the option of LGUs to decide if it was warranted in their area. Which at least where we are they do very efficiently. And there is already automatic cancellation following PAGASA's heavy rainfall color coded warnings.

I can remember many times when Signal No 1 was hardly anything. If you live in a large province, like I do, conditions can be very different across it if it is listed under Signal No 1 by PAGASA.

Look at what PAGASA says:

So I think this will further damage Philippine education. after the long Pandemic stoppage, the Rainy Season, its stuffed curriculum, poorly paid teachers who are looking to get much higher salaries in Thailand, lack of classrooms, decrepit buildings etc

Default Re: TCWS No 1

I do struggle with the closing of schools because of rain, I lived in Norway for over 20 years and spent a while in Bergen which gets about 900mm more rain a year than Manila but I can only recall one incidence where classes were cancelled and that was in October 87 when the storm that hit the UK wandered across the North sea. Here it seems that if a few dark clouds are seen then school and gov workers get a day off.
