Taal Volcano

Seems that our old friend Taal Volcano is getting more active again. The last report by PHIVOLCS = In the past 24-hour period, the Taal Volcano Network recorded one hundred thirteen (113) volcanic tremor episodes having durations of one (1) to thirty-four (34) minutes. Not sure how that works though maybe there is more minutes in an hour in the Phils .

Bit like next door who is applying to be head teacher at the local school who thinks water runs up hill, which would make her husband's job a bit difficult, he is a seaman. More fun in the Philippines.

Maybe I'm reading that differently, but to me that says that there were 113 individual tremors in the past 24 hours, and each individual tremor had a duration of between 1 and 34 minutes. Doesn't mean every tremor was 34 minutes, only that the longest tremor was.

TAAL GETTING RESTLESS.
In the past 24-hour period, the Taal Volcano Network recorded three hundred two (302) volcanic earthquakes, including one hundred eighty-four (184) episodes of volcanic tremor having durations of one (1) to twelve (12) minutes, and one hundred eighteen (118) low frequency volcanic earthquakes. Activity at the Main Crater consisted of weak emission of steam-laden plumes from fumarolic vents that rose thirty (30) meters. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission averaged 925 tonnes/day.

So Taal has low level magma, earthquakes, emitting a lot of sulphur dioxide. At present the earthquake frequency is very variable. If their frequency becomes high and consistent that's two of the eruption precursors according to Wikipedia:

For a magmatic eruption magma must be of a high enough viscosity the seismologists say. Otherwise the eruption could be of steam. But if that is strong enough it could make way for a magmatic eruption, as in 2020.
Back on the pm of January 12 2020 Taal went straight from Alert level 2 "could erupt " through 3 "...in days or weeks" to level 4 "hazardous eruption possible within days".

No change in alert status. Just a nice picture.

More steam indicating continued low level magmatic activity. No change in alert level.

TAAL VOLCANO ADVISORY 4 July 2021 4:15 P.M.

fShare

ShareThis is a notice of anomalously high volcanic SO2 gas emission from Taal Volcano.

The highest levels of volcanic sulfur dioxide or SO2 gas emission was recorded today at an average of 22,628 tonnes/day, the highest ever recorded in Taal. Since 12:00 AM today, a total of 26 strong and very shallow low-frequency volcanic earthquakes associated with magmatic degassing has been recorded beneath the eastern sector of Volcano Island. Some of these earthquakes were reportedly accompanied by rumbling and weakly felt by fish cage caretakers off the northeastern shorelines of Volcano Island. These observation parameters may indicate that an eruption similar to the 1 July 2021 event may occur anytime soon.
